Sled Coffee Table and Snow Track Rug.

By Chrisjob

A coffee table that interacts with its rug. Absolutely precious.

The beautiful hardwood toboggan sits atop a fluffy white floor rug complete with runner tracks. It's pretty pricey, but perhaps a thrift store find, some white carpet, and some 2x4s pressing down glue on the carpet will make a nice DIY option.

Paint a Floor Canvas.

By Chrisjob

Paint a floor canvas

Oh my goodness, rugs are such a pain to purchase. They're either 1) crazy tacky, or 2) crazy expensive.

So, make your own. Begin with a preprimed canvas, and get creative. The result is a surprisingly durable floor covering that can be as graphic or demure as you design it.

How to Braid a NO SEW Rag Rug

By DIY Maven

Little House in the Suburbs has a nice little tutorial showing us how to make our very own no-sew braided rugs. It's a perfect project for the re-user/re-cycler, but if the idea of making a big ol' rug seems daunting, a trivet might be a great way to practice the technique.

DIY: Bind a Carpet Remnant to Make a Custom Shaped Area Rug

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created on: 02/10/09

When a project seems only do-able by a professional, it makes me want to conquer it that much more. Maybe it's because I secretly long to be a subcontractor or something. Anywho, carpet binding has always seemed to be something for which the DIY-er needs a professional. Well, not anymore! Watch this video.. » READ MORE

How to turn a Tea Towel into a Kitchen Rug

By DIY Maven

Ric rac lover Hannah was in a predicament. The space in front of her kitchen sink is an odd size, so finding a rug to fit the space had been difficult. She spotted a rug she liked on Plow & Hearth whose pattern was inspired by that of vintage tea towels. The rug was too big, but it did inspire this clever how-to. To replicate Hannah’s technique, you’ll need a tea towel, an old woven rug for backing, however Hannah also suggests using an old tow » READ MORE

The Stella Rug

By DIY Maven

This is a swooner! The Stella Rug, new from Hidden Art Shop, seems to have been inspired by lace, but it has been taken in a completely modern direction. Made of 5mm thick felted wool, the rug is 120 cm in diameter and will set you back a cool £350. (That’s about 47 inches and about $640 US.)

Pebble Rug

By DIY Maven

Although the Pebble rug from 2Form Design may look like it’s made of real pebbles, it’s actually crafted out of 100% wool. Of course, if you have anything in the house that occasionally projectile vomits, you might want to choose a floor covering with less texture, ‘cause whatever gets between those pebbles is gonna wanna stay between those pebbles.

How to paint an indoor/outdoor rug.

By DIY Maven

All home improvement stores sell big indoor/outdoor rugs. They’re cheap and they’re not attractive–dare I say ugly? Well, here’s a way to make one of those utilitarian things look fabulous.

What you need:

One indoor/outdoor rug. Mine is an Ozite, 6' x 8' rug in bark. It cost 12 bucks and I had a 2 dollar rebate. If this size is too big, you can cut them down with a scissors to any size or shape you desire–probably even puzzle pieces.

Gummi Bear Rug.

By Chrisjob

Meet Simon. He's a rug, made of gummi bears. And to be honest, he kinda freaks me out. I think it's his 'claws.'

Simon is the work of LA and Taipei-based sculptor and installation artist Ya Ya Chou. Read more about Simon here, and then head to the candy store and create one of your own. Where you'll put it...? I don't know, but be careful! I don't imagine the candy or those creepy fingernails will survive the daily pound of your sneakers.
