End Table = Pet Den

By DIY Maven

What do you get when you combine an end table, a pet bed and pet crate? A multi-functional DenHaus. The three styles currently available include the oval ZenHaus, pictured above ($525); the classic TownHaus, which is available in four sized ($399 to start); and the new cosmopolitan BowHaus, pictured at bottom. Each has a door for when fur-baby needs a little time out. Although I love the idea, they seem to lack the airflow/openness of a traditi » READ MORE

DIY Pet Waste Composter

By SandraE

American dogs and cats create 10 million tons of waste a year, and no one knows where it’s going.

Most of our pets’ poop either winds up in a landfill purgatory, where it’s embalmed practically forever in plastic bags, or sits on the ground until the next rainstorm washes it into the sewer where it can drift on down to rivers and beaches. You can compost the poop—just don’t use it with your vegetable garden, because the compost doesn’t heat » READ MORE

‘Designer’ Pet Crate Covers

By DIY Maven

created on: 07/23/08

Because of some behavioral problems, my very neurotic cat sleeps in a very large dog crate at night. It breaks my heart, as I’d much rather have her sleeping in our bed and specifically on my feet, which seems to be her preferred human body part/pillow. For any pet-parent that has to employ a crate, you know what an eyesore they can be. Crate Covers and More sells very pretty ‘slip covers’ (starting at $130) in various styles that you can pop » READ MORE

Me and My Not So Green Thumb

By Deborah

A tragedy happened in our garden this weekend, as I thoughtlessly plucked off all the flowers on the tomato plants that Daniel and I have been raising since spring. Somehow I got it into my head that in order for the plants to focus on the fruit, I had to pick off the flowers. But what I didn't know then is that tomato plants flower first, and then the fruit begins to appear from underneath the flowers. So basically I killed about 25 tomatoes thi » READ MORE

Pet Approved Flooring For Your Home

By Deborah

The floor of your home may be the most important part of the house to a pet. I mean, they spend almost all of there time there, especially if mom and dad don't let them up on the furniture. We let Gus and Charly have free range of the house. They can hop up on the sofas, beds, even the chairs sometimes. But I think they still prefer to spend a majority of their time on the floor.

Choosing flooring for your home is incredibly important if you have » READ MORE

How to turn an old sweatshirt into a no-sew cuddly pet blanket.

By DIY Maven

Here’s an fun, no-sew way to turn an old sweatshirt into great cuddlies for our fur-children. For those of you who frequent fabric stores, you’ll recognize the technique; for those of you who don’t know fleece from flannel, don’t worry. It really is an INCREDIBLY fast and easy project.

What you need:

One old sweatshirt...the biggest you can find. It doesn’t even matter if it’s stained.

A scissors.

A ruler and a bit of cardboard.

What you » READ MORE

Cat Overload from Cute Overload

By beccajo

What's with the creepy-ness, IKEA?

Just making my daily rounds on the 'net, and what do I find? A cat on a matching bed.

Courtesy of Cuteoverload.com

I do not want to see the animal that matches this one, however.

By Affinity

My hubby is a avid fish hobbyist. he loves his fishes to bits! i've grown to like them too but not the tanks.. Before we move in we agreed to have a built in tank manufactured so that it can blend with the decor.. we had a hole knocked down from a wall so that we can see thru into the tank. the other side of the tank is flushed with a build in full height cabinet.

But his love for fishes grew (hmm cant say that for his love for me) and we bough » READ MORE

WDYT: Do pets ruin the value of your home?

By badbadivy

Ruiner of home values everywhere!I was sitting in the waiting room of my doctor's office today when a woman struck up a conversation with me. We were talking about how important it is to keep up the value of your home. She said smoking in the house puts a hit on the value of your home, which I can see. But then she said something that made me look at her like she was crazy. She said pets are the worst thing for the value of your home.

Now, I can see that, in some ways. My cats » READ MORE

Carpet - Dogs - Eeek!

By bippityboppity

I'm looking for a way to avoid having to steam clean my BEIGE carpet so often. I have two medium-sized dogs, one of which is a new addition to our family and has had a few slight accidents. On rainy days they also tend to zoom in from the door, leaving muddy, watery marks on the carpet.

I HATE carpet, but my other half won't allow me to remove it and expose what beautiful wood floors we actually have.  I have even tried comprimising with area rug » READ MORE
