Organize Dangling Earrings with this DIY Concrete Earring Tree

by on Feb 22, 2021

I’ve tried multiple techniques for organizing earrings over the years, but dangling earrings tend to be more difficult to organize in an easy-to-manage way. Luckily, this simple DIY concrete earring tree does the trick and makes the perfect spot to hang several pairs of dangling earrings in a way that’s easy to grab what I want and head out the door.

This simple T-stand style earring organizer is thin and light, so it’s easy to store on your dresser, a shelf or even on your bathroom countertop. It can hold about 8 pairs of danging earrings and, aside from the dry time of the concrete/cement, you can make one in less than 15 minutes.

Materials

What you'll need to make this dangling earring organizer

  • 1/4-inch wooden dowel
  • Saw or heavy-duty scissors
  • Stir-and-pour concrete/cement
  • Rectangular silicone soap mold
  • Glue gun
  • Leather cording

Step

Measure the wooden dowel into two 6-inch sections and one 8-inch section and saw as evenly as possible. If you do not have a saw, you can cut a thin dowel like this with scissors, but the edges may appear more jagged.

Combine about 1/2 cup of powdered cement and 3 tablespoons of water in a small bowl and stir well. Add more water as needed until the cement is smooth and a pourable consistency.

Pour the cement into the silicone mold and lightly tap on the hard surface to remove air bubbles and settle the cement. It should be at least one inch thick. Insert the 8-inch dowel into the middle so that it almost touches the bottom, and use a clothespin to hold it in place until the cement dries (2-3 hours).

Once dry, remove the cement from the mold and heat up the glue gun. Add a dot of hot glue to the top of the wooden dowel and place one of the 6-inch pieces across it. Hold in place with your hands until the glue is dry.

Repeat with the remaining dowel, gluing it to the approximate middle of the dowel.

Cut two pieces of leather cording about 6-8 inches long. Take one piece, and glue one end to the backside of the organizer where two dowels meet. Wrap it around the section in no particular order and secure the other end to the backside as well. This adds more support to the dowels and hides unsightly hot glue. Repeat with the other section.

Now the organizer is ready to use! The hot glue and cording together provide enough support to hold several pairs of earrings without fault, so you can enjoy easy access to your favorite pieces of jewelry whenever you need them with this cool industrial-style earring organizer!
