Awesome Treehouse
By ModHomeEcTeacher
How about coming home to this pad after a hard day at the office? This other-worldy tree home was designed by architect, Robert Harvey Orshatz, and built in the woods of Portland, Oregon. Sitting high in trees the, the home was inspired by a combination of nature and architecture, not a new idea, but now add the most » READ MORE
Weird and Wonderful?
By DaiquiriDivaOr just plain weird?

I've been looking through hundreds of art sites lately and I must say...there are some truly strange things out there. Just had to share this one. I DO kind of like the raindrops hanging from the ceiling though. More pictures here.
How To: Decoupage Your Ceiling.
By ChrisjobOne boring weekend, Mr. Peacock decided to collage. And oh, what a collage he collaged. Using some library books, photocopies, and some handy scissor work, Mr. Peacock decoupaged the nonsense out of his ceiling. And with his handy how-to, you can too!
1. Pick your pattern
2. Find the images
3. Xerox
4. Cut
5. Clean your surface
6. Glue
7.Decoupage
8.Voila!
The Solar-Powered Plant.
By Chrisjob
From Inhabitat: "At first glance this energy producing “plant” may look pretty commonplace, but looks can be deceiving. AIST, Mitsubishi and Tokki has enveloped each solar leaf in an ultra thin film to repel oxygen and water which will make it more durable and friendlier to the harsh outdoor environment. If this prototype performs up to par, they are looking at applying this technology from walls and windows to clothes and toys."

DIY Flower Garlands.
By ChrisjobAmanda from Readymade, finding inspriration in The Darjeeling Limited, sought to bring a little springtime fun to her abode with some DIY flower garlands.

"Though the number of flowers you’ll need depends on how long you want your garlands to be, gather up at least a couple dozen blooms, as well as a needle and thread. Carnations are a good choice because they’re sturdy (and affordable!), but any locally available, not-too-delicate flowers » READ MORE

Lunar Eclipse Photos: August 28, 2007
By ChrisjobHere's your ancient Greek lesson for the day: the word eclipse comes from the preposition ek (out) + leipw (to leave). Leipw also finds itself in such words as lend/loan and relinquish.
Yesterday's lunar eclipse wasn't perfect (at least as viewed from the MidWest), but awesome enough. Here's a few photos and videos that captured the phenomenon. If these don't inspire you...you gots problems.

Root Furniture
By DIY MavenA weekend in the woods has left me feeling...well...woodsy. To bring a bit of that feeling inside, a perfect choice is Viva Terra’s Entwined Root Table. Described as "rustic yet refined", the 40.5"L x 14"W x 31"H will set you back 479 bucks. Just as interesting but cheaper is their Entwined Root Stool for $149. (If it wasn’t illegal to pilfer wood from state parks, I could totally envision a DIY attempt.)
Know Your Bugs.
By ChrisjobI can't bear to turn on the AC yet, despite the 90-degree afternoons, so often, our doors are wide open to elements. And with the breezes comes the bugs, and lately we've been visited by some decidely complex looking creatures that my Biology-teacher mother didn't teach me as a kid.
Enter WHAT'S THAT BUG.COM, a charming database dedicated to, you guessed it, all your entymological inquiries, and some beautifully photographed from the insect world. » READ MORE

Green light
By balubalu
While we had some chandeliers lately I've stumbled on a interesting design idea: a green light.
The crazy fact is that it is dimmable - just cut the green or let it grow. And yes - I know that dimming will take a few days :-).
What do you think? Is anyone going to do a DIY version of dreamingreen's light?
The Tree's Gone, How do I Cover the Hole in my Yard?
By brunoLast year I had a giant (56-inch diameter) Elm tree in my backyard cut down:

That sucked. I cried (almost). But here's the real problem; now what do I do about the giant dirt and mulch hole it left behind?
I'd like to do something simple and cheap. Any ideas? Would it be hard to do a little brick patio? Or should I do something simpler like a flower bed?
Design Jobs Outsourced to Rats, Creatives Outraged
By brunoThere are about sixteen other things I should be doing right now but I can't not post about this: from Front, a Stockholm-based design firm, comes Design By Animals, a series of design concepts created organically by animals. Check it out:

This little guy gnawed holes in a roll of white wallpaper, creating a pattern that reveals the older wallpaper beneath it. He's a natural!
