Movin' on up...to the North side
By ruajennieMy husband and I have decided that the town we live in doesn't offer much opportunity for us, so we're planning a move to Minneapolis in September (assuming at least one of us can find a job!). We were wondering if anyone in the area has suggestions on what part of the city to live in. We can spend up to about $850/month and would love to find something with character in a safe neighborhood (we had a break-in last fall and we--meaning I--are a bi » READ MORE
New to Minneapolis
By Brennan hello, i just moved to minneapolis this week and really dont know too much about the city. having said that, i was wondering if there were any events over the summer similar to milwaukee's 'art vs. craft'. well, not so much 'if' there are any but more when and where? also, any other tips on neat places and discoveries that the average person might not know about minneapolis would be great. thanks so much!Moving on the cheap: a primer

Moving can be very expensive, but it doesn't have to be. Here are some ways to save time and money when moving.
- If you don't want it, don't move it. Give away or throw away anything you don't really want or need. The planning stages of moving is the best time to start getting rid of stuff. Give things away on Freecycle, or give things to the Salvation Army.
- The very best free boxes: boxes liquor is shipped in. Go » READ MORE
Great Wall of the North
By beccajoAlrighty folks-please try to look past the crappy photoshopping, and let me know what you think is the best/cheapest solution.
In my new apartment, I need storage. Bigtime. I would also like to keep as much floor space as possible open, as I only have 512 sq feet to begin with, and I still need to get a sleeper sofa or daybed in here. Oy.
Here are four options for adding storage to my space. Keep in mind, I can't touch the ceiling or the brick wall » READ MORE
Sea of Cardboard.....
By beccajoGood grief. The unpacking seems to never, ever abate. Like tribbles, more boxes show up every day.
Since we've been cleaning out my grandma's house as well, I've been inheriting all her stuff. Which is great in the kitchen (I never would have bought myself a breadmaker, but it's awesome to have one!) but not so great when it comes to sentimental things that I want to display but don't have room for, at the moment.
Here are some more photos from th » READ MORE

By beccajoWell I'm settling into the new loft.
I haven't made many decisions yet on paint or furniture or rugs or anything, I'm just trying to get the boxes out of the way for now! I've hung a few of my paintings, collages, and other decorative things, just so I don't feel like I'm living in a big white box.
Here's a panorama that I put together of how it looked last night. Since I took the photo, I painted the little green table and re-covered the ottoman » READ MORE
Clean slate!
By beccajoWell the big move happened this weekend. 20-inch snowfall and all, I have 90% of my stuff out of my old apartment.
There were some bumps and bruises along the way, but for the most part it went extremely well. I avoided two major car accidents, but I think my shocks may be shot on my car. I had a smashing time with my siblings(including my 11 month old nephew) who all came to town to assist with the move, and to be present for an award given to » READ MORE

By beccajoIiiiii'm movin' OUT!
32 days from now I'll be makin' the move from the top floor of a lovely old house, to a brand-newly converted studio in an Artist's community. They took three old warehouses and made them into new, funky spaces for artists to live and work.
(imagine a corolla instead of a model t)
I'm so excited, there's so much to do, and to keep myself from being overwhelmed I'm making many, many lists. DURING my move, I have a show openin » READ MORE
