The 50 Scariest Movies of All Time
By DIY Maven
On Halloween, after the candy has been handed out and the neighborhood settles into the witching hour, there's nothing better than cuddling under a warm blanket and watching a scary movie. Whether this means a trip to the video store or streaming on-line,
Architecture from the Da Vinci Code
By DIY Maven
This summer a friend and I saw Angels and Demons and as I was watching it, the only thing I could think of--besides the fact that, even though it is a better movie than The Da Vinci Code, I still can't buy Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon--this is going to make a lot of people want to visit Vatican City. The architecture, the art, the atmosphere all added up to one spectacular tourism ad--less the bloody bits, of course. » READ MORE

By ModHomeEcTeacher
Photo Image: Dave Banks
Don't let these still, cool evenings of Fall go to waste sitting inside watching t.v. It would be way more fun sitting outside with some firepit action, smores and watching a movie with friends, even snuggling up in a blanket for a scary Halloween movie. GeekDad provides a step by step tutorial for backyard diy-ers who aren't quite ready to throw in the seasonal to » READ MORE
How to make moving pictures, Harry Potter style!
By DIY Maven
Have you heard? The latest Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince, opens today, and Photojojo is celebrating in the most magical way. They show us how to make moving pictures, just like in The Daily Prophet. For you Muggles, that's the newspaper that serves as the vehicle for the Minestry of Magic to disseminate its agenda, which should not be confused with The Quibbler, the wizarding world's equivalent of The National Enquirer, which actually reports a factual story now and then. (TMI?) Anyhoo, the photographs in the newspapers move like short films that are on a loop. They're very cool, and now, thanks to jojo's tute, we can make them! This is what you'll need to do it:

Looking for a Film Location in The U.K.?
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Does anyone else ignore the opening action in movies to focus on the location, the decor, and whether you recognize the set? I'm a bit fascinated with how locations are chosen for photography shoots or movie locations. How about having the job of combing the English countryside for a satisfactory set? » READ MORE
HORRIBLE Movie, GREAT Apartment
By lilybeeGotta love the in-flight movie. Or really really not. Over Her Dead Body was burned onto my retina's on a flight this summer. It really is a genuinely horrible film. But there was one good thing about it, Whatsherface's apartment had really pretty lantern-style lampshades.

See? Pretty. But really the only good thing about the whole film. You can find similar lanterns/lampshades right here

The House Stays in the Picture...
By lilybee
Last September Ed Norton and chums were filming some scenes for the new Hulk movie on Yonge Street in Toronto, about half a block away from our flat. Whilst watching the movie we played 'spot the subtly altered landmark'.
It got me to thinking, how does one get one's house in the movies? A bit of research came up with this info.
I'd say it's probably easier to be a pushy stage parent to your house if you live someplace like New York, L. » READ MORE
Scary Movies
By Ken HoytHorror movies are much more than a Halloween staple. Audiences love them. It's fun to be frightened. Unfortunately (for me at least) the CGI components of modern movies have made the scary images a little too realistic. Packing an underwear change does not enhance my movie-going experience...
It wasn't working for writer Wendell Jamieson either. He wanted to share the spooky movie experience with his young son, while side stepping the chance of » READ MORE

Box Office Decor: Taking Design Cues from the Cinema
By Chrisjob

The first time I saw A Clockwork Orange (at 13), I was way too young: too young for the content, too young to understand the themes, or even the intricacies of the plot, and too young to recognize it as fine piece of filmmaking (with a remarkable Moog soundtrack). In fact, the only thing I could really appreciate was the insane postmodern interiors of the set décor...From the Korova Milk Bar to the internal shots of the homes to the wildly ps » READ MORE
Frah-Geeee-Lay.....Must be Italian!
By beccajoOh how I love A Christmas Story. According to my father, it was basically a documentary about his life. Substitute the younger brother for three older sisters, and that was his holiday experience. We taped it off the TV when I was a kid and loved to watch it even when it was 88 degrees outside.
This time of year it shows up almost every night on some station, so here's a fun little article on the house where the film was shot. Turns out some dude » READ MORE
