Whether this mosaic toilet appeals to you or it doesn't, you gotta give its maker props. All those pieces of mirror, the pink grout, the naked lady flush handle?! It's one impressive crapper.

Appliance Art

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created at: 2009-02-20

Awhile ago I posted a photo of my friend's mosaic surfboard. Now she's gone and done a toaster and the piece of toast, to boot. She's revving up for a big mosaic workshop in San Francisco. Lucky!

I'm thinking she could try her hand at a Mosaic Sewing Machine.

A few years ago contemporary mosaic artist Saimir Strati made a very large mosaic out of nails in the likeness of Leonardo Da Vinci. The piece took almost 400 kilos of nails which covered a 2 x 4m surface. To see more of his mosaic work, visit this page on his website. Via.

Create Your Own Post-It Mosaics.

By Chrisjob

2008 was the year of the sticky-note mosaic...large, pixelated images created on walls from the sticky squares of Post-Its (see here, here, and here). So, in 2009, make your own with the help of this Instructable and some open source software. Just be careful with your paper waste.

A (Tile) River Runs Through It

By DIY Maven

created on: 11/14/08

Spotted this in a recent publication distributed by The Tile Shop. The ‘stream’ is actually glass tile. Also, imagine a 'dry river bed' made out of river rocks or rock mosaics, much like the image below, only more organic in shape, of course.

How to Make Scrap Paper Mosaics

By DIY Maven

Jeffrey Rudell over at Craft Stylish shares his process of making scrap paper mosaics. Materials are minimal on this one and include scrap paper–junk mail works perfectly–and some time. Simply tear your paper and assemble the pieces in the image you imagine. I’d suggest maybe using archival glue to adhere your final vision to, perhaps, an artist’s board or even just posterboard. When fashioning your image, Jeffrey says there’s two things to kee » READ MORE

How to Make a Mosaic Tiles out of Aluminum Cans

By DIY Maven

Check this out...a very clever crafter cut up a bunch of aluminum cans and made mosaic tiles out of them. She cut them into squares, flattened them out, folded over the edges (to make them ‘safe’) and then nailed the tiles into place with tacks. Fabulous! To find out how she made the frame pictured above, go to Bean-Sprouts. Via Crafty-Crafty.

Curbly Video Podcast: How to Make Maven’s Mosaic Flower Pot

By DIY Maven

created on: 04/23/08

Several years ago I made a mosaic flower pot as a shower gift. Everyone at the shower went a little ga-ga over it. Their enthusiasm got me thinking. Would people actually like to learn how to make such things and pay me to teach them how to do it? Apparently so, because a few months later I was teaching the technique at several local adult education programs. Here, my fellow Curblians, is a complimentary tutorial, just for you!

Giant Mosaic Mural:Return of the Grout

By beccajo

It is finished. My giant, lovely mosiac mural is installed and hasn't fallen off the wall, yet.  Fabulous.

created on: 02/26/08

So where were we with the last couple of posts?

Well, we'd come up with a design, collected and then broken up the plates and tiles, glued them down, and let them set.

GROUTING

Always my least favorite step in the mosaic making process. And, the one that always has to come last, so you can't get mad at me for leaving the dirty work un » READ MORE

Build a giant mosaic mural, part the second

By beccajo

Well, you've read round one, are you ready for round two?

Breaking and Creating

This is the really, really fun part. Depending on your design and your materials, your milage may vary.

DON YOUR PROTECTIVE GEAR: Goggles and gloves, and an apron, are greally critical for this step.

An old box or clear container works just great for this. Take your hammer and SMASH! It somehow helps to have the other tiles underneath to help you smash the ones on top. » READ MORE

Build a Giant Mosaic Mural: step 1!

OK friends, one of the reasons I've been absent from writing much lately is that I've been working on a HUGE mural: a wall mounted mosaic commission for a coffee shop that's being constructed in my neighborhood! Exciting!

So I'm going to lead you through the process of building a giant mosaic installation of your very own.

Since it's not installed yet, I'm gonna break it into a few parts (just like you break a plate, ha!)
