A couple cool things I spotted inside a Japanese recycling center
By Doug Aamoth
Just got back from Japan on a tour with Panasonic to see some of the company's eco-friendly initiatives. While inside one of their recycling plants, I spotted this cool table made from a washing machine drum. This particular recycling plant handles home appliances like refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, and television sets. They're able to recycle more than half of the materials in each appliance back into new appliances. This ta » READ MORE
Goodwill Hunting: Ten DIY Recyclables You Should Never Pass Up
By ModHomeEcTeacher
The thrill of the hunt quickly goes south when you realize the plaid Herculon sofa you snagged for $15.99 will set you back at least $500.00 to reupholster, not including the twenty some yards of fabric you have to buy. Impulsiveness is part of the buzz, but if you're a thrift shopper who is seriously shopping for recyclable materials, you need a plan. You'll save time as well as money if you know what you're looking for, within general guild » READ MORE
How to do a Blind Hem Stitch on your Sewing Machine
By threadbangerThis is the go-to hem for anything more formal where you don't want to be able to see a line of stitching on the bottom. Sewing machine Wahoo!
By DanceCakesI am wanting to start sewing handbags.
I have not yet owned a sewing machine and am ready to invest in a used one. But! Before I do, does anyone have advice as of what I need?
The materials I plan on using are clothing fabrics and the thickest material I'll probably use is canvas duck fabric.
I appreciate the love and help!

Spring Cleaning Time!
By badbadivyIt's March and in my household that means it's SPRING CLEANING time! Spring cleaning can be tackled in many different ways. It all depends on what sort of person you are. I'm the type of person that likes to dash around my house and clean it all in one day. Others like to tackle one room at a time, or clean for a certain period of time. Whatever you do, make a plan and stick with it! There's nothing worse than having a bunch of half-finished proj » READ MORE
Eww.... how do I hide a fax machine?
By NewEnglandSchoolmarm
(Ignore the Justin Timberlake CD, please). I guess I can drape some kind of fabric over it, build some kind of hutch around it, or just put it in its box and never look at it again. But honestly, I don't want to just throw some sheet over it, I'm no good with a hammer, and it's just not practical to put it back in its box (I use it fairly often).
I'm looking for an ingenious idea.. and where else can I get ingenious ideas if I can't get them here?
Cigarette Machines - An art revival
By VintageSwankAfter acquiring a great piece of mid-century modern machinery, the quest began to decide what to do with it. This great vintage cigarette machine is probably passé in the eyes of many, but the pure art of it was something that couldn't be passed up.

In our search to see what the best option for this piece would be we stumbled upon this great project. It’s called Art-o-Mat. Art-o-mat machines are retired cigarette vending machines that have » READ MORE
