Table Jewellery, Use What You Have
By lilybeeWhat is it about this time of year that makes folks want to dress up their tables? For 9 months of the year bunging down a plate and some cutlery and chowing down is just fine for me, but from thanksgiving to new year that just doesn't seem to cut it. I want pretty and festive and shiny and this year I also want cheap.
So, in the spirit of 'use what you have' I raided my jewellery box and dragged out my accessories to dress up my table.

String Rings
By DIY Maven
Jewelry is not a usual topic here on Curbly, but when I spotted these String-Rings, I just had to post them. Of course they are a play on the old notion of tying a string around your finger to remind yourself of something; but these .925 sterling silver bands raise the practice to something much more beautiful. And meaningful. Each ring, sold for $25, comes with a gift bag, polishing cloth and 20 different-colored strings. It’s up to you to str » READ MORE
Take A Tour of Jennifer Perkins' Studio.
By Chrisjob
So, Jennifer Perkins is my I-don't-care-what-you-make-I-will-always-love-you craft crush. I'll never copy any of her designs, make any of the projects featured on Craft Lab, and don't have much use for Naughty Secretary Club jewelry. But I don't care. I love her...especially when she says 'loverly.'
Modish interviewed Jennifer about her own handmade space, her jewelry studio in Austin, TX. All the multidrawer organizers make it clear this girl » READ MORE
Gift: Bottle of Wine with a Handmade Bonus
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Is it only me, or do others feel like a mere hostess gift needs a little something extra to make it personal? I usually try to write a short, funny poem to accompany a gift that may come up a bit short. Instructables, has a simple, quick tutorial to make a necklace out of your favorite wine cork. I see it working like this: You buy two bottles of wine, pop the cork on one for the necklace, have a few glasses while you craft your handmade » READ MORE
How to make a jewelry pegboard.
By DIY Maven
I grew tired of not wearing my jewelry because I couldn’t find it in my jewelry box. A display pegboard seemed like a good alternative to the messy box.
Props you’ll need:
- a large wooden frame (I used an 16" by 20")
- a piece of MDF veneer or plywood to fit inside the frame. (I used a piece of 1/4" scrap pre-finished MDF maple veneer leftover from a kitchen remodel we did awhile back. But you could cover a less-than-perfect piece of plywo » READ MORE

How To Apply Images to Enamel Jewelry.
By ChrisjobIndie Fixx teamed up with artist Andrea Oda for a helpful tutorial on applying custom images to enamel pendants and other jewelry. The instructions are for an electric ceramic pottery kiln, but seems totally accomplishable. (Is that a word?)

1. While the kiln is warming up, stick your enamel pieces on a wire shelf to create oxides on the surface of the copper. You can also take your copper piece and fire it with a torch in order for the oxid » READ MORE
Jewelry for your tree?
By beccajo

Is this for real? You know I love trees as art and branches for jewelry, now this?
From the Tree Jewelry website:
"When was the last time your favorite tree demanded anything from you? Attention? Conversation? Compliments?
Surprise that oak, that maple, that honey locust. Drape a gleaming stainless
steel necklace around your precious. Fitted on indestructible marine line,
finished with marine hardware. Lasts forever."

How to Make Beads from Newspaper.
By Chrisjob

The only thing cooler than a wicked craft project is a wicked craft project that recycles. The process is similar to the "papermaking" you did in second grade: Rip up small pieces of newspaper, mix with water to break down the paper fibers, shape and squeeze out the water.
I wonder what would happen if you put these in a rock tumbler?

(DIYable) Hairpin Necklace by Mana Bernandes.
By ChrisjobBrazilian designer Mana Bernandes specializes in making beautiful jewelry from common, inexpensive items, like "Clasp" made from hair ("bobby") pins. While she doesn't offer a how-to, I bet one could figure out the technique from the photo. It reminds me of those regal neckplates you see on ossuaries and paintings from the Ancient Near East...a handmade version would certainly complement your handmade Pharoah costume nicely.

Make A Quarter Ring!
By badbadivyWhen my grandfather was in the Aleutian Islands during World War II, he got to missing my grandma, who he had left back in Pasadena, California. He was a Navy Seabee, and he was building...I don't know, something. There are precious few family stories about his time in the Islands during WWII- one of them was when he offered to drive a tanker truck because he was bored and wanted to get off base. The only problem was, he had never driven a tanker » READ MORE
Update to Dresser turned into Sideboard Buffet
By NimueFINAL UPDATE BELOW!
Several months ago I posted about changing our old and very outdated dresser into a buffet. I painted it black and it was much improved. My original post is here.
Over the last few days I've REALLY turned the dresser into a sideboard. I added 6 legs, new knobs with some of my Grandmother's costume jewelry attached, and a 2nd color of paint that matches one of the darker colors in my dining room curtains. I also used some » READ MORE

Umbrella Bling From Pier 1
By DIY Maven
A few years ago, if you had an outdoor umbrella, it was imperative that you decorate it with string lights. Now, thanks to Pier 1, the trend turns to embellishing your umbrella with jewelry.
These sweet baubles and bells can be clipped to just about anything–including awnings, window valances, small tree branches and, of course, umbrellas. The Circles & Diamonds are sold four to a package, while the Bells come in a package of two. At $15 a set, » READ MORE
