Like
a lot of people, I live in an apartment. The type of apartment complex that doesn't allow painting of any kind. I really try to jazz up the
blah eggshell walls with color, whether it be colorful artwork or
colored lampshades that cast a hue on the wall. Well, I wanted to step
it up a notch with my décor beyond that and do something totally
different with my bedroom wall that would make visitors come in and
say, "Wow! You did that?"

If you have a painting or photograph that you just love, why not create an entire color scheme around it? A large painting is the centerpiece and the color inspiration for this bedroom..., darker shades of yellow appear in the bed spread. Simple, beautiful.

I
wanted to create something special for my nephews and niece for
Valentine's Day now that I'm so far away. I really was struggling with
an idea, but when I went to the beach, the idea popped into my head to
write their names in the sand in a heart. I was going to make cards out
of this, but decided to put them in frames for them to display in their
room. I hope it reminds them that though I'm far away, I still love
them very much an

I've just returned from my photography class where my new creative friend, Nikki, showed me the calendar she just made by using her very artsy photos she's been taking. It's simple, sophisticated and very much an expression of herself. The look and feel of it won me over. » READ MORE

I have a fireplace in my apartment that, until recently, had a brass insert with glass doors. It looked similar to the photo below. I removed it because brass just isn't my style but I need to put something else in its place.

I would like to make something myself and I would like for it to look modern and simplistic. I don't use my fireplace so it doesn't have to be fireproof... I just want to keep the soot in and my cats out while maintaining » READ MORE

Forget about ordering a floral arrangement for Thanksgiving. Look around your house, in the pantry, at your bowls to find simple and pretty vessels to fill with fruit, water, river rocks, flowers or even a branch from a leaf-barren tree. This arrangement allows everyone to see across the table while either enjoying the family, or self-righteously analyzing each other. We do a little of both.

Christmas gift giving is a tradition that has been passed down for countless generations.

Repurposing a headboard: make a slipcover for it (as above), dog bed, a doll bed, a child's low platform bed, the back of a wide chair, a tabletop, cut an opening and use as a frame, a mirror frame, if it's slatted, upholster it, if it's solid, paint a picture in the center, decoupage a favorite image in the center. It killed me but I cut off the legs of this headboard so it would sit on the floor. I drilled holes for long bolts and attached » READ MORE

I aquired this desk...no idea what year it was built, but I wanted to refinish it. The only problem is that is was made with a veneer which is peeling off in places (as well as the paint). I was thinking of using wood filler to build the spots up but I don't know if this will work...anyone have suggestions or suggestions on what to do with it?
