ATTENTION Curbly Users! Inspire Me :)

By DestinybyDefinition

created at: 2009-04-24

My son is five, almost six. His room is very small, about 100 sq. ft at best, with a teeny tiny closet. As frequent a Googler as I am, I cannot seem to pull any inspiration for decorating a boys room. Girls rooms, SURE! Tons of ideas, color pallettes, and frilly accessories. But it seems like the only way to vamp a boys room is by picking a theme. He loves dinosaurs, creatures and camo. The bedding/curtain set is new and I'd like to work with i » READ MORE

Painting Vinyl Trailer Walls And Need Advice!

By DestinybyDefinition

If walls could talk, mine would say " I hate you, I hate you so much that I ooze ugliness because I like seeing you cringe..."

Well I'm ready to fight back. But I'm not prepared. I heard a few people say that TSP (Trisodium Phosphate) will give the vinyl a good 'tooth' for the paint to adhere to. So I guess I have to invest a good week and a ton of muscle into just scrubbing the entire house down.

But then I don't know which primer to use and wha » READ MORE

Fireplace Help

By 374 lbs

I have a fireplace in my apartment that, until recently, had a brass insert with glass doors. It looked similar to the photo below. I removed it because brass just isn't my style but I need to put something else in its place.

created on: 12/02/08

I would like to make something myself and I would like for it to look modern and simplistic. I don't use my fireplace so it doesn't have to be fireproof... I just want to keep the soot in and my cats out while maintaining » READ MORE

Mid-Century Modern Light Fixture: Needed

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created on: 12/30/07

Hallelujah!  My husband was changing a bulb that was stuck in the socket of this UGLY fixture and he broke it!!!  Now I can look for a new fixture.  I'm looking for a new fixture or, better yet, a mid-century fixture that gives off enough light.  I'm looking for interesting ideas.  The table is staying but the chairs will be replaced.  I'm still working on what to do with the greenhouse view.

How should I connect my laptop to the television?

By Chrisjob

There are probably geeky communities in which I could ask this, but I hope some of the Curbly technogeniuses might have some ideas:

So, I just got a new Mac Book Pro, and I'd like to hook it up to my LCD television. (To get better use out of it, since we rarely watch TV [it was a Christmas gift]). I'd like to use the larger viewing area for Photoshopping and hopefully some video editing in the future...and of course, Curbly posting!

The TV has a " » READ MORE

Decorating my Living Room for the First Time

By kathyt812

I need help decorating my living room.  I have a lot of dark wood in my living room - there are dark wood beams, and a huge rustic fire place with brown and nuetral stones.  I want to go with browns and blues.  Here is my problem.  If I want to do browns and blues can I have a couch and love seat, and chair that is a greenish brown color?  I have attached a picture of it but in the picture you can hardly tell its green.  Please help.  My inlaws a » READ MORE

Please Help Me Fix My Hang-It-All!

By Chrisjob

I picked up an Eames Hang-It-All on a recent trip to the DWR Warehouse sale.

Two of the horizontal pieces (yellow/pink and green/purple) were not attached, as seen in this photo:

How should I fix this? Epoxy? Industrial Strength Adhesive? Can it be welded or soldered without screwing up the white powder coat?

Sewing machine Wahoo!

By DanceCakes

I am wanting to start sewing handbags.

I have not yet owned a sewing machine and am ready to invest in a used one. But! Before I do, does anyone have advice as of what I need?

The materials I plan on using are clothing fabrics and the thickest material I'll probably use is canvas duck fabric.

I appreciate the love and help!

Is there anyway to make these wall decals?

By Inkie1101

I don't know if anyone is familiar with these, but they're sort of like those window decals but they're for walls so you can decorate without painting or stenciling. They have commercials for Fatheads, pictures of sports stars. But these are more decorative.

Is there any way to make these on your on? They're great in concept but still expensive.

Please Help Me Create This Effect in Photoshop.

By Chrisjob

Photo wizards,

How does one mess with the colors so they become as such?:

Am I correct in thinking the process is similiar in both photos? (They're by the same artist.) I have a pretty capable camera. I realize the exposure is great, but I certainly see some processing as well.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Exterior color angst

By richardstwilliams

Picking an exterior color for my modest bungalow is killing me.

I was thinking coastal and bright, but now I'm getting cold feet. I keep hearing things like, "Think of resale." and "Think of what the neighbors will think." Honestly, in a 28-weeks-later world, I'd paint it a coral/orange with white trim and deep green accents, but the zombies haven't taken over yet. Now I'm thinking of bone white with a rich dark brown (mahogany) for the trim. It » READ MORE

hmmm...?

By eepy! So Wendi and i bought our first house in NC. We have a "dining room" that has hardwood floors and a 3 windoe set that looks out to the backyard. We have no friends or family in the area to pop by so a formal dining room is not necessary and probably wouldnt be used. Wendi and I like to drink wine and I like to relax with NPR and something to drink so I was interested in a more "adult" oriented space but not a bar per se in the frat boy sense. I h » READ MORE

How Do I Replace A Door?

By Rohn Jay Miller

I have a door in an upstairs bedroom that leads to a small balcony.  The problem is that the door itself is a cheapie Sears Roebuck door from the mid-70s which lacks a small window (which I would very much like, to bring more light into the room) and is also starting to get weatherbeaten.

I'm a DIY knucklehead, but I'm assuming I can't just pull the door off the hinges, go buy one I like of the same size and hang it on the same hinges, right?

Before The Cleanup

By RustIndy

This is just a sample of the horrendous mess I live in every day. The desk is way too large and is in a poor working place, the workout equipment is crowded by clutter, and the music stuff is scattered from one end to the other.

So why am I not cleaning it up? Because it's time to completely rearrange the place! I hate it, I hate it, I hate it! Too much stuff, too little space.

I need help finding an arrangement that lets these two adjoined rooms c » READ MORE

Good, cheap recreations of things I can't afford

By vsgbeatrice

Since I've come to the realization that I'm just not going to be able to afford the actual vases I want to get from this store called Modern on Broadway in Denver, I found these mini vases at delight.com that aren't a bad way to settle.  The colors are actually pretty close to what I was look at and it's a really nice price.  Well, at least maybe they'll tide me over.

Feel free to let me know where I can find mid-century pieces...that are aff » READ MORE

Project Organization... I could REALLY use some help!

By lafemmedramatique

So, I am probably the most disorganized person on earth... my boyfriend, on the other hand, is borderline neat-freakish (those architecture majors are all the same....) Anyway, he got really upset the other day when I lost my purse (again) and made me promise to get more organized so that we can stop fighting over it...

So, since I'm moving in May, I've decided to start getting ideas on what I can do BEFORE I go moving stuff in and unpacking every » READ MORE
