Le Bean Bag Bed via the Dragons' Den

By DIY Maven

created at: 2009-10-20

If 'Dragons' Den' is familiar to you, then you're a fan of BBC America, like me. The program--or should I say, 'programme'?--features five successful entrepreneurs who listen to pitches from those with an idea or product looking for investors. (If it sounds familiar, perhaps you've seen the American rip off, I mean, version called Shark Tank.) » READ MORE

A Hanging Bedroom.

By Chrisjob

valentin-apartment

Architechts Emmanuel Combarel Dominique Marrec came up with this creative design that maximizes the available space in a medium sized French apartment.

It's a bedroom. That hangs. In the center of the space. Wow.

The rest of the space is plenty amazing itself, so check out the full design.valentin-apartment

Sky Planter: The 21st Century Version of a Hanging Plant

By DIY Maven

A new twist on the macrame hangers of the 1970's, Boskke's Sky Planter is an upside down planter. (Much like the inverted tomato plant idea, I'm guessing.) It locks in the soil so there's no mess below, and because you water from the top down, there's no water lost to evaporation. Its 'internal reservoir system' means you water less often too. A conversation starter, no doubt, that will save precious floor space. Not bad! Via.

DIY Hanging Planter That Won't Drain Your Budget!

By BethanyBlah

I came across this article on ReadyMade and I wanted to share it with everyone here.

created on: 10/04/08

ReadyMaker Phoebe Streblow took a colander she found at a thrift store and rigged it into an adorable hanging planter using a wire hanger and a length of chain. It works out beautifully because of the depth of the bowl and the sturdy metal handles on the sides to wrap some wire (or chain) around for hanging. There are more than enough holes for drainage, also. » READ MORE

How To: Attach Stuff to Walls without Drilling Holes.

By Chrisjob

Instructables user HighwayKind wanted to keep his kitchen a little more organized: "I didn't want to ruin my

kitchen tiles and wall by drilling a giant hole through it, but I did want to hang my knife and paper/foil thing to the wall. Solution: superglue and magnets."

Check out the process here...I'm not quite sure whether it's any more wiser to superglue stuff to the wall than to drill into it, but clever, nonetheless.

How can I create a "watermark" on fabric?

By UmAnOnion

Greetings all.

I am movung into a new studio apartment in the not to distant future & will be using a curtain as a room divider, to seperate the living room area from the bed area when i have overnight guests.

I would like to add a bit of tone on tone variety to the fabric drape & was wondering if there was any way to put a 'watermark' into the fabric, to change/increase its transparency in a pattern of my choosing. The fabric is  going to be whit » READ MORE

Goodwill Hunting

By ModHomeEcTeacher

It's another week of my Goodwill addiction relapse and here is what I'm on.  It looks like a handmade starburst wall hanging.  It is extremely heavy.  I needed something like this about a year ago and bought tons of mirrord tiles to try to make one.  I thought that was going to be heavy!!  Anyway, a Saturday dash into my local Goodwill store # 3 found this awaiting me for $14.99!  I had to add a little mirror for $2.49 which I bought at the Hobby » READ MORE

To hang or to prop?

By DIY Maven

AllPosters poses the question of hanging or propping art in their latest newsletter. They point out the flexibility of propping, as it’s easily changed. They also suggest interspersing your propped objects with ‘sculpture, floral-filled vases, or flea market finds’ to add interest. Along with this increasingly popular trend, AllPosters passes along hints for hanging, blocking and framing your pieces as well.

Low-drama picture hanging

By badbadivy

Maybe it's just my family, but there's always a lot of drama when we hang pictures. It's always "No, the left side needs to be a bit higher. No, wait. Now the right side needs to be higher. Now the whole thing is too tall." Then there's the great problem of using a pencil to mark where the nail needs to go, then measuring carefully down from the pencil mark. It seemed our paintings never ended up exactly where we really wanted them.

I got a tip » READ MORE

Picture hanging aid.

By wayfarer

Placing a picture on a wall is easy.  Calculating exactly where it will hang when it's settled on its cord is another matter.  Here's a wee gadget that will help you hang pictures just where you want to.  Not my own invention - the idea has been around for years.

Just a thin strip of wood anywhere from 6 inches to a foot long, depending on what size picture it's for.  A handle of some sort at one end and a nail driven through the other.  Hold t » READ MORE

Hanging Bookshelf

By barrettorama See:

http://www.curbly.com/martha/posts/259-bookshelves-with-cable

It got me to thinking about how to build a bookshelf with my poor carpentry skills.

Mostly this consists of hardware store parts.

  • 3ft threaded rods around $7.50(cut to fit depth of the shelf)

  • bunch o' nuts about $1.25.

  • 30ft of chain around $17.70 (be sure to get something with some serious weight rating, mine is either 300 or 600lb.)

  • Shelf boards around $10 (mine ar » READ MORE
