How to Turn a Gift Bow into a Gift Flower

By DIY Maven

created on: 12/22/08

If you save gift bows like I do, you probably have a sack of them, all of which are looking a little crunched up by now. Here’s a great–and EASY–way to remake them into bow mums.

What you need:

  • A scissors
  • Bows! Large or small, it doesn’t matter, but they must be made of paper ribbon like the cheap sack o’ bows you can buy just about everywhere these days.

What you do:

First, cut the loops down the center, longways. You don’t » READ MORE

Will you be giving hand-crafted gifts for the holidays?

By DIY Maven

created on: 12/11/08

In our local paper this weekend, there was an article entitled "GIFT TRIMMING: No money for gifts? No Problem. Here are some ways to fulfill your holiday gift list without resorting to stealing or crafting" complete with a picture of a cute, little, hand-knitted cell phone cozy. My first and only thought was resorting to crafting? I immediately copped an attitude and turned the page. I didn't even want to read the author's penny pinching gift » READ MORE

Duct Tape Bows

By DIY Maven

Spotted this pic over on Craftzine. A perfect finish to the DIYers’ gifts this holiday season–wrapped, of course, in craft paper. There’s no accompanying tutorial, but it shouldn’t be too hard to do. After taping the package, I’d probably fold a length of duct tape back on itself, thereby eliminating the sticky back, and then ‘tie’ the bow. Or, to save on tape, you could stick the tape onto newspaper and then trim the excess paper away. » READ MORE

By lilybee

created on: 11/12/08

We're not talking shoelaces here, we're talking PRETTIES. For gifts... 'cause it's getting to be that time. Sure you could buy ready made bows, but wheres the fun in that? This way you get to use up any supplies of ribbon that you might have been compulsively hoarding (I can't help it I loveses the precious ribbons)... Anyway, the trick to making swanky looking ribbon bows is apparently to use a bow tying board, here's how to make one.
