Man Turns Garage into Pan-Am First Class Cabin

By DIY Maven

Man built a FirstClass Pan Am Cabin in HisWhy a guy would spend upwards of $50k and 20 years of free time to makeover his garage into a replica of a Pan-Am first class cabin, circa the 70's & 80's, is a mystery. To me anyway. » READ MORE

How To: Cool Ways to Organize Your Drill Bits and Taps.

By Chrisjob

Traditional twist bits usually come in a set, with a perfectly organized case or box with the dimensions clearly marked, so that you can find what you need easily. Most even close and stay stowed.

Then, there's all those other bits you eventually amass: all sorts of driving bits, spade bits, countersink bits, combo bits, bits, bits, bits, bits. Here's a few options to keep them off your bench and shelves and out of trays and drawers.

I want a new workbench

By tmgeorgo

I'd like to get a new workbench for my garage.  The bench I've been using for the past four years is a leftover from the previous owner of my house and is a fairly sturdy DIY version but with limited storage and power.  He/she took three particle board vanities and screwed them together, then fastened a thick sheet of MDF across the top of all three.

I'd like to have one with a nice wood top, an open shelf and some drawers underneath, and a pe » READ MORE

By ModHomeEcTeacher

A Baltimore homeowner decided to make the most of his property and provide a beautiful pool for his family, hidden behind brick walls with a retractable roof.  He worked feverishly between 2006 and 2007 to convert his one car garage into his personal oasis. Why? Because he wanted to swim laps » READ MORE

Glass garage, anyone?

By DIY Maven

The T-Bone House, designed by COAST, is located near the German town of Waiblingen. It has all those earth-friendly features, like geothermal heating and a rain water recycling system. It also has great views of the surrounding countryside. So, if it’s so environmental, why does the home have a glass garage that draws the focus to an antiquated form of energy consumption? Because the car in that particular garage is a 1974 Porsche Targa, the homeowner’s pride and joy. V » READ MORE

I Will Try To Be Like You All; I May Fail But Cut Me Some Slack, Wouldja?

By ChewMouse

This is a garage

Are you reading me? It's a GARAGE!

And some guy's wife went and made the floor all checkerboard and installed sissy-white cabinets and put everything all anal-retentively neat. He must be so ashamed.

Now see, I would pretend not to notice if I went to their house. Because this is just so wrong.

But Mr. I'm-Married-To-A-Martha-Stewart-Wannabe got her » READ MORE

Find Extra Storage Space for Bulk Items.

By Chrisjob

A few weeks ago, we won a one-year membership to a discount club at a charity event. (Thankfully, not the one owned by WalMart.) So, to be appreciative of our 'luck', we redeemed the membership, got some fancy photo IDs, and made a few purchases. With only two people in our home, we haven't much use for perishable products, like a five gallon jug of mayonnaise or a gross of Bubbletape, but we did pick up some paper products, cause there's nothing » READ MORE

How to have a yard sale (and make a few bucks, too!)

By badbadivy

I was reading this post, and I realized people might benefit from a "how to have a yard sale" post. As the post says, yard sales are not for getting rich from. They're a good way to get rid of your excess crap. But with some good merchandising, you can generally make a little money from your yard sale, too.

  • Set up your yard sale in advance. Yard salers start shopping at the crack of dawn, and are usually finished shopping by noon, so having it a » READ MORE

Garage Envy

By DIY Maven

Apparently one of the fastest growing segments of home remodeling concerns the part of home in which we don’t actually live: the garage.

Oftentimes the first ‘room’ greeted by guests, the underutilized, forlorn garage is having it’s day in the sun. Companies devoted strictly to the beautification of garages are springing up everywhere. They offer kitchen-quality cabinetry with European hinges, specialty organizers–including grid walls and bike h » READ MORE
