Alternative Easter Craft: Cascarones.
By Chrisjob
I enjoy dying easter eggs (really, I do...), but I don't have a use for ALL those hard boiled eggs that come out of the project. I do, however, have plenty of use for breaking things over my friends' heads and making big confetti messes, so this year, I'm making cascarones- a Mexican tradition of decorative eggs that are hollowed (blown) and filled with confetti, which are subsequently broken over others' heads. Sound awesome? You're right.

Making your chickens easy to care for? Giving you two free chickens with your order?

Chickens in the City
By beccajoI'm trying to convince one of my friends to raise chickens in the heart of St. Paul. Apparently, you need to get the approval of 75% of your neighbors within a 100ft radius before you can get them, and Minneapolis has similar rules. The most recent issue of Make Magazine
featured an article on raising just hatched chicks, and their site contains some more articles from chicken-raisers, their challenges and successes.

It's All About the Nog: Egg Nog Recipes and Ideas for the Holiday Season.
By ChrisjobEgg Nog is a dichotomizing phenomenon: egg nog fans tout its contributions to holiday cheer, and those with a distaste are avid and vocal nog haters.
Perhaps the source of the schism is the source: those who love it have experienced true, homemade egg nog (most likely with some Christmas "spirits" added), and those who hate must only know the nasty storebought options. I'd always been in the latter category until last December, when I experienced
DIYable Egg Planters?
By DIY Maven
These sweet little Eggling Plants from Wrapables caught my eye recently. They come with packets of seeds ready for sowing, a ‘fortified peat mixture’ and little terra cotta trays in which to nestle. They’re 1.75" by 2", the size of an extra large chicken egg, and are sold in sets of three for herb and flower collections ($29.95) and singly for the cactus offering ($9.95). Sure, these eggs are made of ceramic, which means they’re durable, BUT to s » READ MORE
The chickens are coming: a peck inside the growing urban movement
By alexrussell
No longer are chickens and their fresh-laid eggs fit only for farmers in the countryside. More and more city-folk are raising their own chickens in home-made backyard coops. These rebels are part of a growing movement of Americans taking chickens and eggs into their own hands.
