Before and After: $4.99 Goodwill Chair Upholstery Demo
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Remember the stress of doing a demonstration speech in Speech 101? Reupholstering this chair in front of a classroom full of interior design students gave me the opportunity to sweat through this lovely experience one more time. Cutting foam, adding natural cotton batting (very fluffy and clumpy), and upholstering this mod side chair in front of a young, design hungry group made me vow to get better at these demos so I might take this show on the road. See what you think. » READ MORE

Customized Eames Shell Chairs.
By ChrisjobFor my money, there is nothing better than an Eames fiberglass (now plastic) shell chair. Eiffel base, with/without arms... I'd take them all.
But, sometimes, vintage versions have seen better days. So rather than let these stained and worn masterpieces remain untouchable, artists and otherwise creative folk have transformed them into something new. Apartment Therapy has gathered a few:

Make A Personalised House Of Cards
By lilybeeThe Eames House Of Cards is a series of interlocking cards depicting what Charles called 'The good stuff',

first produced in 1952, they're still available today, find them at the Curiosity Shoppe for $35. If you have an MCM lover on you list they're pretty much perfect.
OR you could make some depicting your very own good stuff. There's a tutorial over at Design*Sponge to do just that.
You'll need:
- 32 images that you love
- a printer
- 3 sheets of photo quality ink jet paper
Fake Trees Go MCM
By lilybee
I am a big fan of real Christmas trees (see here for an article about real V fake) but I could be swayed by something that looks like this:

Charles Eames' Chair Leg Christmas tree (check out the man himself hanging out beside it) the picture's from here.
Or this fellow, The Possibilitree, by Richard Babcock is $360 (yikes) from DWR.

They beat green plastic any day!
Eames Rubber Stamps
By lilybeeWant 12 Eames classics for $13.57? Done.

The only catch is that they might be a bit, well, 2-dimensional and OK sure, they're only a few inches tall, but really, aside from that they're perfect in every way. This set, available from Amazon includes all the iconic pieces and the various motifs too. If you were, say, intending to make your own wrapping paper this holiday season you could do worse than a MCM theme.

The New Charles and Ray Eames Postage Stamps
By DIY Maven
On Tuesday of this week, the U.S. Postal Service issued 42-cent stamps honoring the work of Charles and Ray Eames. The 16 stamp sheet was designed by Derry Noyes and depicts all aspects of the Eames’s creative vision including architecture, furniture, film and exhibits. Your local post office should have these commemorative stamps; if they do not, you can order them from usps.com.
Mid-Century Furniture Magnets.
By Chrisjob
Snowden Flood knows how much you'd love to own all those classic mid-century furniture pieces like an Eames rocker, Arne Jacobsen swan chair, or a Eerio Saarinen pedestal Tulip chair. And they recognize how much it'd cost to buy each of them. Even those mini-versions from Vitra cost over $100.
So they've offerend a different option: Mid-century fridge magnets. They offer each of the designs mentioned above, plus a 3 legged table that sort looks » READ MORE
Seeking Herman Miller Soft Pad Management Chair in CA
By CrackerHi,
I am looking or a used / vintage Herman Miller Soft Pad Management chair in or near LA. Also willing to ship within reasonable distance. I prefer black leather, wheels, and the tilt mechanism.
Great chair right? Have you seen one for sale? Have one you want to sell? I have been trolling eBay and craigslist for weeks and weeks looking for a real one. Lots of Blueprint knock-off's out there, but I am looking the authentic He » READ MORE
Please Help Me Fix My Hang-It-All!
By ChrisjobI picked up an Eames Hang-It-All on a recent trip to the DWR Warehouse sale.
Two of the horizontal pieces (yellow/pink and green/purple) were not attached, as seen in this photo:

How should I fix this? Epoxy? Industrial Strength Adhesive? Can it be welded or soldered without screwing up the white powder coat?
Modern Classics Alphabet.
By ChrisjobIt's never too soon to educate on the brilliance of modern design...
Here's Blue Ant Studio's Modern Classics Alphabet, milestones in modern architecture and furniture from Aalto to Zeisel.

Just flew in from Tampa
By SurlyNo, I won't say it.... Anyway I flew to Tampa from Chigago on bidness. Tampa Int'l Airport is a cool modern designed airport. I spent about two hours sitting on some Eames Tandem Sling Seating by Herman Miller. I know that sounds like a plug but man I wish I had a row of these cool chairs in my (next) house. As I was untieing my shoes anticipating security I noticed these cool rows of chairs. I new I had seen them before and I planned to do a sea » READ MORE
Check out: Mid-Century Mania!
By ChrisjobScour your local library for a (VHS-only) copy of Mid-Century Mania, an entry from A&E’s series, House Beautiful. This 50-minute docu-showcase looks as if it was completed in the late 90’s (was that REALLY 8 years ago!?), and includes a bit of the basic cable non-fiction cheese and a generic blonde hostess, but the footage makes it more than bearable.
Highlights Include:

Retro Awakening
By VintageSwankIt's always hard to pick one place in your home that makes you happy, but if we had to choose it would be our living area. This open nook is a great place to sit and talk and relax. The textured glass and chrome ceiling lamp gives the walls the effect of being underwater when it's on. All the furniture is vintage and even the painting is a vintage original Lee Reynolds.

Happy Kitchen Corner
By frangrit
A bright, cheerful corner of my kitchen features some of my favorite objects, including the soft, bright Marimekko pillow and the fun Domo Kun. Next to it, a small table is stocked with books and stuffed monsters. This is the best place to sit while the sun is shining, and breeze swishing the curtains around, particularly if you've got a slice of homemade bread to munch on.
