Stack Your Wine Bottles with Style.

By Chrisjob

vineyard3 Stack your Wine Bottles with Style : Vineyard by Pack a& Rack

I can't think of a better way to put it, so I'll let the manufacturer describe the Vineyard from Pack and Rack:

Why hide a beautiful thing? Wine speaks to all your senses, not least to the eye. So why then tuck away a beautiful bottle of deepest red with a label that probably has been designed by a well known artist? Show your wine - let friends and customers admire this piece of art!

How To: Make a Reversible Placemat Cover.

By Chrisjob

Reversible Tablesetting Placemat Cosy

It's nearly 2010! If you've got placemats, they should indeed be round. And if you've got round placemats, you should create your own covers. And! If you're creating your own covers, might as well make 'em two-sided for twice the decorability.

DIY Dining Set.

By Chrisjob

Dining_chairs

Cookie magazine offers this bright idea: a collection of mismatched dining chairs can be easily united with a simple can of paint and a weekend. Perfect for thrift store and garage sale finds...plus, it can make chairs you'd never consider putting in your dining room mouthwatering. And, it doesn't hurt that they're orange.

If the wood tones are similar enough, you can leave the bottom part of the legs unpainted for some excellent contrast.

Playful Placemats from Modern Twist.

By Chrisjob

The photos intimate that these modern, poppy placemats from Modern Twist are intended for kids, but these, if I ever catch them for sale, will look mighty fine on my dining table. Their transparent nature simply enhances the beauty of the table, adding a bit of visual interest. "Made from hand silk-screened food-safe silicone, the Modern-twist placemat is available in botanical and nature-inspired patterns. With a minimalist aesthetic, the pl » READ MORE

Eight of the Twenty Worst Foods in America.

By Chrisjob

Men's Health editor-in-cheif David Zinczenko's new book, Eat This, Not That!, explores food choices at popular restaurants, supermarkets, and holiday treats. The book also explores the twenty worst foods in the country, and The NewYorkTimes.com Blog highlights eight of them:

  • Worst Fast Food Meal: McDonald’s Chicken Selects Premium Breast Strips with creamy ranch sauce. Chicken sounds healthy, but not at 870 calories.
  • Worst Drink: Jamba Ju » READ MORE

Retro American Diner Style Furniture.

By Chrisjob

The 1950's: There's the overabundance of kitsch, and then there's doing it well. Cola Red stands out from shopping mall nostalgia stores, offering fine 1950s dinette sets from original manufacturers. I'm digging on these Corvette and Brooklyn sets. Chairs, stools, tables, and full sets are available in extensive vinyl and laminate options.

designboom: dining in 2015

By 2Modern

Macefnew

designboom's 'dining in 2015' competition results are in and i am just floored.

the competition rules (i should know, i entered and then faltered to find time with travel, work, etc. to actually send in my entry) were to re-think and re-design the way we [will] dine: how we go about this activity at work, at home and during travel. there were other guidelines, such as sustainability and recycled materials and just how our eating habits (ho » READ MORE

DwellStudio Designs Available at Target.

By Chrisjob

I hadn't watched TV for almost three weeks. and the first commercial I saw when I turned it on featured some choice modern bedding and baby gear. "Who with such taste would advertise on the Food Network at one in the morning?" I thought. "Ikea? Room and Board?" Nope, Target.

Apparently the retailer has teamed up with DwellStudio for exclusive releases of bedding, a nursery collection, and kitchen/dining materials.

Grassroots Modern provides these l » READ MORE

Update to Dresser turned into Sideboard Buffet

By Nimue

 FINAL UPDATE BELOW!

Several months ago I posted about changing our old and very outdated dresser into a buffet.  I painted it black and it was much improved.  My original post is here.

Over the last few days I've REALLY turned the dresser into a sideboard.  I added 6 legs, new knobs with some of my Grandmother's costume jewelry attached, and a 2nd color of paint that matches one of the darker colors in my dining room curtains.  I also used some » READ MORE

How To Set A Table

By Chrisjob
I've never been much for following the "rules" of domesticity, but it's always good to know some of the old tricks. I picked this one up working at a fancy-schmancy restaurant in college.

1. Begin by placing the dinner plate directly in front of the seat. If using a placemat, position it squarely and place the plate on top, directly in the center.

2. Fold the napkin and lay it, with the folded edge to the left, on the left side of the dinner plat » READ MORE

Mine, all mine

By amorcitos

I love this pitcher--so sexy.Okay, I'm done now. I'm done buying Russel Wright dishes...for the time being, anyway.

The latest addition (choirs of angels singing). Ain't she purty? Soon to be best friends with our new covered ramekin and veggie bowl.

These pieces are a lot bigger than they look...the pitcher's about 12" tall with a 7 or 8" base. The ramekin and veggie bowl were both pretty stout, too. Works well for a family-style dinner or a dressed-up table with an unpreten » READ MORE

Old bureau dresser turned into Buffet - Sideboard

By Nimue

*2 Photos have been added to the bottom of this post because I've updated the dresser turned sideboard AGAIN.

For years this old dresser has sat either in our guest room or the 'junk' room - too ugly to use when we had better options.  It was inherited from my husband's Uncle so we've been hesitant to get rid of it.  Turns out that with a little paint & new knobs it makes a nice buffet for the dining room.  The extra drawer space really comes in » READ MORE

Reupholstering Dining Chairs - Part 2 of 2

By celee

I'm finally done! I purchased a playful pattern that ties colors that I have around the house . It's an outdoor fabric that's waterproof so hopefully, droppings will not stain too badly. For the cushion, I used a 1" high density foam and extra loft batting. I have one down and another one to go. Then, I'm off to find my second set!
