Holiday How-To: Lighted Christmas Balls.

By Chrisjob

Two strands of Christmas tree lights and a bit of chicken wire is all you'll need to start cranking these lighted Christmas balls out this season. There's a whole neighborhood in North Carolina devoted to splattering these all over their streets - if they can... so can you.

Have The Greenest Tree Around

By lilybee

Cookies, berries and popcorn. Yummy. And the most ecologically sound way to decorate your tree. If your decorations are not eaten straight off the tree by naughty pooches (you know who you are... Dilly) then you can use them later to feed birds or pop them in the compost.

Yarn-Filled Ornaments

By DIY Maven

If you spend any time handling yarn, then you have a yarn stash. The bane of any needle-crafter is using these leftovers in clever and pretty ways. Well, filling clear balls with the stuff couldn't be cleverer or prettier!  Via.

Make a Modern Paper Chain

By DIY Maven

Conventional paper chains are so last century. Heck, they’re so two centuries ago! (Not to mention so second grade.) Jeffery over at CraftStylish has reinterpreted this classic, putting a completely modern and grown-up, not to mention GORGEOUS, spin to it. The materials you need to replicate Jeffery’s design are minimal enough and include:

  • Medium weight paper
  • Two circle punches, one smaller than the other (Jeff used one 1" inch punch an » READ MORE

Make Christmas Decorations More Chic

By lilybee

According to both Coco Chanel and my Grandma Generoux "EVERYTHING is chicer in black, Darlink". Take for example, this fellow, the nicest thing you can say about him is that he's 'festive'. Check out his makeover after the jump.

By DIY Maven

Perfect for your haunted Halloween party, these spider web balloons–complete with spiders–are clever and easy to make with just a few supplies. Their ‘secret ingredient’ is something called Hi-Float.

Along with the Hi-Float, you’ll need:

11-inch clear latex balloons

Some small rubber spiders.

Clips or plastic disks to seal the balloons.

Air or helium (the second of which is optional)

To make them:

10 CHIC THERAPEUTIC SPACES

By berryberr

All of us are bombarded daily by the pressures of work and relationships. We really hate to go back home after a hard day's work to find even more distractions from noisy TVs, kids and neighbors. In short, we just want to forget the mundane stuff and switch our minds off totally - even if it's only momentarily.

Interestingly, there's an increasing demand for spaces that seek to 'purify' the soul. Whether it's a ro » READ MORE

How to Fold a Paper Santa

By DIY Maven

This paper Santa is great for embellishing Christmas cards and gifts. Because he can stand on his own, he makes a sweet place setting. You could also add a tie to his hat and use him as an ornament. So versatile is this easy-to-fold little guy, you might want to make a bunch! Here’s how we do it:

I’m using a square of paper that’s white on one side and red on the other. Also, I used light weight scrapbook type paper, so Santa might look a little » READ MORE

Ugly Christmas Tree Lights–the Website

By DIY Maven

I stumbled upon Ugly Christmas Tree Lights this morning, which is a website devoted to all those houses that grab our attention at Christmastime. Although the pictures are very entertaining to peruse, even better are the cranky e-mails the site gets. One writer even compares the site’s creators to Nazis. (Makes me wonder just who’s on Santa’s naughty list.)

Cool Magnetic Split Flower Pot

By Doug Aamoth

Split Flower Pot

Very cool. Stick these two separate flower pot halves on either side of your favorite window and watch as your guests ooh and aah about your seemingly-magical creation. Keep indoor plants on the inside and outdoor plants on the outside. The two halves are held together by magnets so you can move them around easily, should the need arise.

This is a design by Kyung-Eun Oh. No word on whether or not it's commercially available but this might be somet » READ MORE

Mini Modern Artwork for the Frugal Collector ($20)

By alicia

While paging through this month's edition of Real Simple magazine, I came upon this gem...www.tinyshowcase.com.

This website features a community of artists who post one original piece of mini artwork every Tuesday. Each print sells for about $20, and is approximately 4 x 6 inches. What's more is that a percentage of each print sold goes to a charity of the artist's choosing. They have a gallery of several pieces from the past, and this we » READ MORE

Recycling Killer Ornaments

By EmilyJayne

Okay.  So I had a billion of these glass ornaments laying around, that I inherited.  Sure, they're great.  But I have large dogs that have even seemingly larger tails that bring the fragile orbs to their demise.  Not to mention little hands pulling on and bumping or spinning wildly into them. It brought me to thinking about how to recycle them, since I'm an advid advocate for Mother Earth.

I found these ornaments from Pier One.

In an effort t » READ MORE
