By Chrisjob

Of course, some of these are obvious, but it's important to note exactly what's safe and useful to throw in your compost bin or pile. If you haven't started, now its the perfect time, as the falling leaves and dying summer plants (tomato vines, corn stalks, etc) are the perfect compost fodder.

Compiled by Marion Owen, from HGTV.com

Here's the first 30 or so, but do be sure to check out the whole list.

DIY Garbage Bin Compost

By intouchoz

Compost is nothing more than decomposed plant material, so you don't need a fancy bin to make your own compost. You can create compost in a heap on the ground.

You can create compost in a heap on the ground, but most gardeners think that containing your compost pile makes it look tidier. Here's how to make compost in a recycled garbage can.

Looking for input re: transforming crib into compost bin

By leslieinbham

Well, I know it's not the first thing you might do with a crib.  Or maybe it's not the first thing you might use to make a compost bin, but I'm a semi-old hand at composting and I *think* this could work pretty well.

 Took the twins' cribs down last week (utter and completely bedlamous) and I.....just...can't....seem...to...part...with....the damned things.  So many possibilities.  So I have this wooden spindle-type one that I think...I *think » READ MORE

Compost Pail

Total = $149.26

By next summer I'll have the best vegetables around, » READ MORE

The BioLet composting toilet: because human waste is biodegradable

By alexrussell

We're a giant leap closer to the green revolution, thanks to the BioLet composting toilet. At first glance, this seems like just a box to drop your business in, and that by itself is kinda gross. There's definitely something about swirliing water that makes it all disappear. With the BioLet, it stays right there to biodegrade natually, with constantly flowing air to both help the bacteria do its job and to keep all odors flowing out the vent pipe » READ MORE
