rain-spa-shower-heads-ib-3.jpg

We've been able to turn our showers into aromatherapy sessions for years, with the help of shampoos, soaps and body washes, but now we can turn them into color therapy sessions as well. These new spa shower heads from iB Rubinetterie, which come in a 280mm square design or a 600mm round option, have lights integrated in them. » READ MORE

Photo Image: Easy DiY at Home

Blank walls sometimes make us so nervous that we run out to Pier One or World Market and buy generic pictures to cover the blankness. Ick! If you're scared to pick up a paintbrush and a blank canvas, this simple idea from Easy DiY at Home  shows you a simple way how to add metallic shine and bright repetitive pops (sorry, I swore I wouldn't say that anymore) of colo » READ MORE

How To: Roy G. Biv Cake.

By Chrisjob

Kaitlin from WhiskKid has got a few things figured out: 1) cakes should always be created from layers; 2) the more thin layers, the better, as they allow for more frosting; and 3) if you're gonna have crazy layers to support the frosting, you might as well make those substrates amazing.

Have you ever found a picture of a room or an object on the internets and were inspired by the colors? With handy color palette generators, you can copy/paste the URL of the image and the websites will produce a color palette based on the colors in the image. They're incredibly perceptive, perhaps picking up colors you might not have noticed on your own.

Blow Some Colored Bubbles!

By Chrisjob

You can use your command of chemistry to make colored bubbles.Dude, who knew? Apparently, by adding some accessible chemical compounds and indicator to a basic bubble solution (1/2 cup liquid dishwater detergent, 4 tablespoons glycerin, and 4-1/2 cups water) you can create nearly opaque chromaorbs from your bubble wand.

From About.com Chemistry: "Add the sodium hydroxide and indicator to the bubble solution. You want enough indicator so that the bubbles will be deeply colored. For each liter of bubble solut » READ MORE

ColoRate, the 3D Color Wheel

By DIY Maven

created at: 2009-05-15

As one of ColoRate's creators, Michael Douma, reminds us, 'color is inherently three dimensional' so to have a color-picker that works in conjunction with how our minds work makes perfect sense. Michael describes ColorRate as 'a free online service that has some similarities to Adobe Kuler » READ MORE

Color advice

By wordswinker

I just moved into a non-descript little apartment in a jewel of a small town. My new furniture was rescued mainly from Craigslist, but a lot of my stuff has been collected over years and some wise inheriting. I want to paint the backsplash and space above the kitchen cabinets and an accent wall above my couch.

Any advice? The kitchen/dining/living room are in an L, so my immediate thought was to repeat the sofa's color in the kitchen. Then again » READ MORE

The Paint Swatch Wall.

By Chrisjob

Oh. My. Goodness. Sometimes there's those projects where you're like, "Oh, how clever" and forget about them. Sometimes there's those projects that you appreciate, and them recommend them to someone that might be able to make use of them.

And then there's those projects that you simply HAVE to make for yourself. This paint swatch wall is one of those for me. Perhaps its the use of the gradient colors against white. Perhaps it's the geometric rep » READ MORE

Color Inspiration Art

By completelycoastal

If you have a painting or photograph that you just love, why not create an entire color scheme around it? A large painting is the centerpiece and the color inspiration for this bedroom..., darker shades of yellow appear in the bed spread. Simple, beautiful.

DIY Dining Set.

By Chrisjob

Dining_chairs

Cookie magazine offers this bright idea: a collection of mismatched dining chairs can be easily united with a simple can of paint and a weekend. Perfect for thrift store and garage sale finds...plus, it can make chairs you'd never consider putting in your dining room mouthwatering. And, it doesn't hurt that they're orange.

If the wood tones are similar enough, you can leave the bottom part of the legs unpainted for some excellent contrast.

Kitchen Color Trends for 2009

By DIY Maven

Kitchens.com has put together their forecast for color and it starts with always optimistic yellow. From greenish citron to buttercup and everything in between. But if that's a bit too happy for you, how about shades of violet? Here the choice is more subtle:

Blue is also on the horizon for '09. Although dark blues have fallen out of favor to purple, bright and light blues are staying in the forefront.

From warm to cool, to black-ish to b » READ MORE

Nice Color... What Does it Mean?

By lilybee

Grey and Brown, and occasionally white that instantly tuns to Grey-Brown. Those are the colors of winter in the city, and frankly... Blah. Which makes the idea of Color Therapy really appealing. The main idea is that the colors that you surround yourself with can change your emotional, spiritual, and even physical well-being. Which makes sense really, this time of year I am completely drawn to yellows and (eyewateringly bright) pinks, which according to Color Therapy is just what is needed to counteract the winter blahs.

created on: 12/30/08

So here's a breakdown of what colours mean and how they affect you:

Red is a powerful colour, it's associated with vitality and ambition and can help overcome negative thoughts. But it's also associated with anger, and too much can cause irritability and impatience.

Etsy's Shop-By-Color Page

By DIY Maven

created on: 12/23/08

Was I the only one who didn't know about this cool feature on Esty? It's their 'Colors' page, and with it you can shop by color. Just pass your cursor over the page and color bubbles pop up; click the color of your choice and products associated with that color appear. Click on those thumbnails for a larger pic with a description or throw images around. It's a really fun interactive page, even if you're only window shopping!

Andy Warhol Coloring Book.

By Chrisjob

"If there was ever an artist whose work was suited to appearing in a colouring book, it is Andy Warhol."

Now, the pop artist is enjoying his umpteenth fifteen minutes with a large format coloring book. Interestingly, it doesn't contain any of Warhol's iconic halftone portrait work, but some of his handdrawn line art of animals and other pictures.

£12 at the National Gallery of Scotland.

Admit it: more than once you've thought, "I'm totally gonna learn how to screen print and make up my own wallpaper for the ultimate custom room!" Okay, well, at least I've thought of it. But, that's a heck of a lot of work and is rife for potential error.
