An Environmentally Conscious Christmas tree.
By DIY Maven
This tree and the company, Cloud Gate Design LLC, that designed it gets major props for environmentalism. First, the very modern tree and its packaging are made from recycled cardboard which is also 100% recyclable. In addition, a portion of the profit from the sale of each cardboard tree is being donated to the Arbor Day Foundation’s Trees for America. And to top it off, The Cardboard Tree’s website is delightful; just click ‘decorate’ and yo » READ MORE
Wood, Drill and Yarn Christmas Ornaments
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Wood, fiber and a drill-why didn't I think of these ADORABLE tree decorations? These are so delicously simple, I can't think of any way to improve on them except maybe to make sure to sign and date them on the back side. You know those anxious two or three days before Christmas with kids? Decorate cookies or drill some holes? You know what I'd choose. » READ MORE
Have The Greenest Tree Around
By lilybeeCookies, berries and popcorn. Yummy. And the most ecologically sound way to decorate your tree. If your decorations are not eaten straight off the tree by naughty pooches (you know who you are... Dilly) then you can use them later to feed birds or pop them in the compost.

Popcorn, thread, needle and voila! A festive afternoon filled with delicious smells and a full tummy. » READ MORE

Once you see their work, you'll understand why they consider themselves artisans with modern sensiblity. Do a Mountain Dew Christmas Tree
By DIY Maven
Start saving your 'Dew cans and next year you could have enough to make this very unique Christmas tree. It comes to us courtesy of Quiltville's in-box. They have no idea who the maker is or how, specifically, it was made, but the pictures show the process fairly well. The guess is you'd need some PVC pipe, wire, a drill, a Christmas tree stand, about 379 Mountain Dew cans, some lights--of course--and a 2 liter bottle for the angle on top.

How to Pick A Christmas Tree
By lilybee
It's arguably the biggest Christmas decoration you'll put up and it'll be around for weeks, so how do you choose a good one? Well, according to professional forester Steve Nix, like this:
Perform a "freshness test"
Take hold of a branch and pull your hand toward you, allowing the
branch to slip through your fingers. Most, if not all, of the needles
should stay on the tree.
Lifting and dropping the tree on a hard surface should not result in » READ MORE
Fake Trees Go MCM
By lilybee
I am a big fan of real Christmas trees (see here for an article about real V fake) but I could be swayed by something that looks like this:

Charles Eames' Chair Leg Christmas tree (check out the man himself hanging out beside it) the picture's from here.
Or this fellow, The Possibilitree, by Richard Babcock is $360 (yikes) from DWR.

They beat green plastic any day!
3D Puzzle Christmas Tree
By DIY Maven
Made from 100% recycled cardboard, Pop Deluxe's new laser-cut Snowflake Tree puzzle ($17) comes is kraft brown or white. It measures 10 x 10 x 13, and although they can be decorated with paint, glitter and such it seems unnecessary. Their simplicity is rather elegant.

Make Your Own Geek Christmas Ornaments.
By Chrisjob
This year, make your e-waste into something celebratory with this collection of handmade geek tree ornaments from GEEKWARE. Currently in five parts (though expect some updates, as apparently, there's 100!!!), these how-tos include everything from ribbon cable Stars of Bethlehem to santa mice to my fave, keyboard key word ornaments.
Check them out here. The contrast between the techno-recyclables and the natural Canadian greenery is stunning.
Beer Bottle Christmas Tree

Got a lot of empties left over from the holidays? Instead of putting them out in the recycling bin, you might want to try this.
Modern, Flat-Packed Christmas Tree.
By Chrisjob Treehugger points us to this modern, plywood tree: "For the modernist not tied to tradition, they've designed a reusable, flat-pack tree to decorate your home in the spirit of a greener holiday for years to come."The plywood "tree," which really consists of four identical CNC-routed planes that fold together when not in use (and for ultra-efficient shipping), may not be quite as festive (and green, in color at least) as a more traditional tree, » READ MORE
Make a Peppermint Christmas Tree
By DIY Maven
This sweet Christmas tree was made with a Styrofoam cone, onto which peppermints were glued. Displayed on pillar candlesticks, they would make great table or mantle decorations. Very cute, and very easy! Via BHG.
Christmas Tree in a Box
By DIY Maven
This Christmas Tree in a Box may not be a real Christmas tree, but it has a certain authenticity not found in those euphemistically labeled 'permanent' trees. (Who are they kidding? They're FAKE.) Anywho, at only 15 bucks, this 2 foot paper number might be just the way to go in lieu of the more expensive, messy and cumbersome real alternative. Besides the tree itself, you get an 80-page book titled 'Christmasmania!' which includes Christmas car » READ MORE

Aluminum Tree Spotted in the Wild!

White or Silver Christmas Tree?
By ChrisjobWell, the Curbly holiday posts have officially begun, so thought I may as well solicit the ideas of the Curbly geniuses before the pre-Holiday sales are over
The blue-spruce-alike Christmas tree and cutesy country ornaments and tree skirt I inherited from my family totally clash with my wish-it-was-space-age-modernism decor in our living room. And I love Christmas...I mean love Christmas, so it's pretty problematic, as our tree is up ASAP, and wi » READ MORE
