Random Orbit Chandelier

By DIY Maven

random-orbit-1

I am seriously loving Christopher Moulder's Random Orbit chandelier. The 32" ball light fixture reminds me of fireworks caught in a photograph. Made of aluminum, phosphor bronze and PVC the chandelier will set you back $1,550. Twenty-one 12V/10W Xenon RLX bulbs are included.

Two DIY Natural Chandeliers.

By Chrisjob

As if by synchronicity, two back-to-back Instructables offer how-tos for creating large scale chandeliers using natural elements.

The first, The Castaway, employs vines and twigs and lamp/cord kit for a more controlled look:

The second tutorial utilizes a tumbleweed and string lights for a bit more craziness.

Licorice Chandelier

By DIY Maven

Actually, the maker, ZNP Creative, calls it a Spaghetti Chandelier, but it looks more like licorice to me. (Maybe I just have Halloween on my mind.) The ‘spaghetti’ is red-coated, electrical wire that is draped over a white, powder-coated metal frame. The draping of the wire is left to the user, making the chandelier’s appearance change as you see fit. Perfect for Count Dracula's castle, circa 2008. Via.

DIY Project: Packing Peanut Chandelier.

By Chrisjob

Bryan, the obviously clever boyfriend of Molly Dash, created this beautiful lighting fixture from everyone's favorite inspiration...trash. Made of a bit more than packing peanuts and some glue, it's truly elegant example of very, very upcycling.

Materials

1. Large box of packing peanuts

2. Half gallon of wood glue

3. Large clear trash bag (leaf bag)

4. Medium-heavy gauge copper wire for hanging (18 ga.)

5. Needle nose pliers for hanging

How To Make a 'Sham-delier' With PDF Template

By lilybee

created on: 08/26/08

created on: 08/26/08

I made this 'Sham-delier' to give my balcony a little indoor/outdoor ooh la la. It was inspired in part by Philippe Starck's Ghost Chairs, I love the whole classic shape/modern material juxtaposition. Anyway, if you want to make your own here's what you'll need:

  • Two Flexible plastic chopping boards, mine came from the Dollar Store but Ikea does them too.
  • Two flameless tea lights, again, Dollar Store finds, but you could try here

How to Make a Plastic Bottle Chandelier–for 20 Bucks

By DIY Maven

I find this plastic bottle chandelier interesting, in an inelegant yet cheeky yet environmentally friendly kind of way. And for 20 bucks, why not give it a try?

All you need:

  • a strand of icicle-style Christmas lights with 100 bulbs
  • a leather bracelet a-la 90's rocker style (although my suggestion would be a couple of white zip ties)
  • 2 ceiling hooks, like they use for hanging plants
  • 10 1-liter plastic soda or juice bottles
  • an X-acto knife or a very s » READ MORE

Teacup chandelier

By lesley

teacup chandelierMore lighting made from recycled materials. Madeleine Boulesteix uses all sorts of old kitchenware to create her lighting.

She says "I've never used a pastry cutter for pastry or a toast rack for toast but they seem nice jaunty objects with more potential, so I liberate them from their domestic duties by incorporating them in my chandeliers."

What's so clever is that she takes these old bits and pieces and turns them into something » READ MORE

The Tampon Chandelier

By DIY Maven

From the mind of Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos springs ‘The Bride’, a chandelier made of 14,000 wrapped tampons. I’d like to comment further, but I think it’s best I opt for decorum on this one. Via The Chandelier Blog.

Plastic Water Bottle Bottoms Chandelier

By DIY Maven

Designer Stuart Haygarth creates chandeliers using the bottoms of plastic water bottles. Showing at Design Miami, Haygarth says his creations focus ‘on the overlooked sculptural beauty of these plastic water containers.’ Just one question: What did he do with the unused part of the bottles? Send them to a landfill? Hope not. Via Dezeen.

The Bendable Bendant Lamp

By DIY Maven

Check out Mio Culture’s bendy Bendant Lamp. It’s a ‘flat-packed chandelier composed of a series of leaf-like shades surrounding a central fixture.’ Users become co-designers as they can bend the flaps up or down to create an variety of ‘unique light and shadow arrangements.’ The 30" L by 33" W lamp is available in silver, white and chartreuse, and at $165 bucks it’s not terribly expensive.
