Would you have the courage to paint your kitchen cabinets black?
By DIY Maven
Painting kitchen cabinets is a daunting task and choosing to paint them black could make the job even more of a nail-biter for some. Not for me, however, as black is my go-to color. It would be the ONLY color that wouldn't cause a serious case of the yips. But I digress. Emily's kitchen was perfectly fine 'before', except that she didn't care for her laminate backsplash or the 'orangey-pink' stain of the cabinets. Tile took care of former, the blackest black paint she could find took care of the latter. The outcome? Well, you decide:

9 Incredible Bookcase Make-overs
By DIY MavenBHG has some completely inspiring before and after shots of rather easy bookcase make-overs.
Simple unfinished offerings like this one can be transformed to suit a variety of styles.

First up is the contemporary version. It was stained in a deep ebony and then a roller shade was installed to cover the less tidy bits.

Next it takes a country turn. Shutters were used to create doors. A forge-iron shutter bolt was added to keep them secur » READ MORE
6 Easy Kitchen Cabinet Makeovers
By DIY MavenSome of these cabinet makeovers are simplier to do than others, but all of them are an inexpensive and easy alternative to replacing your cabinets entirely.

How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets
By DIY Maven
Take a look at Amy’s cabinets. She’s posted the entire process over on day-lab diy. Sure, it was a lot of work, but if you follow her steps, you could get the same fantastic results. This is the Cliffs Notes version of what she did:
- She removed all the doors from the cabinets.
- Then Amy removed all the hardware.
- She sanded the glossy finish off the cabinets and doors with 220 grit sandpaper.
- Next she cleaned all the parts with tack cloth. ( » READ MORE
Bye Bye Lazy Susan
By DIY MavenLazy Susans, those good for nothin’, corner cabinet wastes of space are going to be a thing of the past, and soon, thanks to cool ideas like this one recently featured at a local home and garden show. The cabinet maker simply made corner drawers. Okay, you still lose some space to empty angles, but hey, they’re better than those rotating shelves that invariably get cockeyed on their hingy-thingies so they won’t close properly. And don’t even get » READ MORE
making cabinets
By sgrplmfry I'm going to make cabinets for my laundry room. I'm using 3/4 in plywood with birch veneer for sides and face plate. My question is... should I use the plywood for the back of the cabinet, or just attach the side to the wall, which is drywall. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. making new kitchen cabinets look retro
By yoooo I love the beautiful north light in my loft. It's in an old building so there are heat ducts and pipes and cool stuff, but there is a floating floor (I chose cherry) which looks nice but I like old, cruddy floors. My cabinets are light maple. I wonder how I can make them look more 'vintage.' Should I stain them darker, paint them black?? I like place with integrity, this one is cool, but not what I would have picked had I seen it before purchase. » READ MOREIdea for Kitchen Cabinets
By terryswalerOur rental house was trashed from the tenant we had to evict — so we had to do some major work on the house especially the kitchen — but couldn’t afford to replace cabinets, etc. So — here was my solution. I painted them with roosters.

I found these cool dishes with roosters on them from Sam's Club and took them as inspiration. Also -- I am currently in love with Clarice Cliff pottery. You can see it in the bungalows and trees in » READ MORE
Don't Toss Those Vintage Kitchen Cabinets
By VintageSwank The first place most people start renovating in their homes is the kitchen. More often than not the old kitchen cabinets are tossed aside for more modern ones. In our own home we utilized a small section of vintage metal 50s cabinets as furniture in our modern baby room. Baby’s need style too!
We took the overhead cabinet and mounted it to the wall to server as a storage unit for sheets and all the things baby needs, since they seem to need » READ MORE
