By ModHomeEcTeacher

created at: 2009-10-07

Didn't anyone else imagine, as a kid, what it would be like to live in a pumpkin shell or an oversized shoe? Boy, I did. Happily, I just discovered that dome builder, Steve Miller and I must have been on the same wavelength. In 1997, he, his wife and 1 1/2 year old daughter set out on a dome building adventure like no other. Today, their two story Vermont pumpkin house has been enlarged and improved upon more » READ MORE

Building a dream

By DaiquiriDiva

Just wanted to share my parents' website.  They built their house in the 70's by hand; no power tools, no electricity, no running water and using mostly wood from their property or salvaged materials.  Over the years there have been additions and upgrades, but it's always retained its charm.  Click on the "OUR HISTORY" link to see their story.  The house is cute, quirky, and cozy...and has always been an inspiration to me of how you » READ MORE

making cabinets

By sgrplmfry I'm going to make cabinets for my laundry room.  I'm using 3/4 in plywood with birch veneer for sides and face plate.  My question is... should I use the plywood for the back of the cabinet, or just attach the side to the wall, which is drywall.      Any suggestions will be appreciated.  Thanks.  Sgrplmfry

True DIY

By lucien My list is semi-inspired by the do-it yourself mantra. I love building things, completing projects on my own and having that true sense of accomplishment. I think thats the reward in doing things on your own. Actually making it happen all by yourself in a project that is best left to the professionals. If most people had the tools and the patience they could "do it yourself". So that's why I am asking for grinders and toolsets. I » READ MORE

By DIY Maven

Before we get to the happy ending, we should really discuss how to stay out of jail while undertaking a flip.

Notes on Owner-Occupied versus Non-Owner-Occupied

If you buy a house, move into it and remodel it, you can do all the work yourself–including all the electrical and plumbing. However, if you buy the house on spec, meaning you speculate on its resale, and do not occupy it, as we did with our flipper, you must comply to state » READ MORE
