The Letters Bookshelf.
By Chrisjob
2009 has seen plenty of typography inspired design, from vintage sign lettering to bold alphabets in prints and wall decals. So, it certainly makes sense to take the trend full circle, and use letters to support literature, the very records of language. Designed by recent industrial design graduate Pieter de Leeuw, the letters are made from expanded polystyrene and coated for wear and tear. A remake should be easy enough, provided you can get yo » READ MORE

Make an inverted bookshelf.
By DIY Maven
Instructables has a very intriguing tutorial of an inverted bookshelf. The maker, fungus amungus, used a simple wooden shelf and brackets along with the help of some elastic webbing and a stable gun to fabricate the optical illusion. And like all magic, a peek behind the curtain reveals all!

For the entire tutorial, visit Instructables.
Religious Bookshelf
By DIY Maven
Juxtaposed: Religion was designed by Mike and Maaike. The shelf brings together 7 of the world’s most influential religious texts. Note how they are at the same level. Very cool. Offered in a limited edition of 50 it’s available through blankblank for a hefty $2500, which, I’m assuming includes the texts. As usual, I’m left to consider its DIY-ability. A big ol’ slab of wood, a table saw & dado blades for roughing it out and then a dedicated » READ MORE

By DIY Maven
The Elastico Bookcase ($110) by Arianna Vivenzio is made out of an ‘elastomeric’ band that is wrapped around two metal pegs which are in turn secured to the wall. The band’s tension will form to any shape. Interesting: absolutely. Trustworthy: not so sure.
The Bookman
By DIY Maven

He’s my kind of guy: tall, strapping and loves books. Designed by Kazmierz Szmauz, Bookman stands 70 inches high and 45 inches wide. He’s made of mahogany and seems to prefer books that are no more than 8" high. Available in three different poses, Bookman will run you about $1,700 through Any Amount of Books. DIYable? For a skilled woodworker, sure, why not. Via.

DIY INVISIBLE BOOKSHELF
By berryberrHow Cool: A Bookshelf Made from Books.
By fabulouslygreen
My love for books spilleth over this morning. Bookish design finds and inspiration for home, office or your closet.
This wall unit by Vitra contributing designer Werner Asslinger redefines the definition of the word ‘bookshelf.’ An interesting functional mix of old materials (those outdated titles) with a modernist’s love of modular:

A 2" x 6" (or 8") and a jig saw is just about all you need to make this leaning book shelf by Mark Reigelman. And, if you DIY'd it, you'd be the first on your block to have such a thing, because Reigelman's 'Books Shelve' is only a prototype. Via Apartment Therapy.

"Bookshelves whilst being terribly useful, have never really managed the style leap into cool. They are after all just shelves. Well not so the Book Shelf however. For this tome is (of course) not a book at all, but a shelf that looks just like one. Simply attach it to your wall (all the bits are » READ MORE

Attention Woodworkers: Make this Pisa Bookshelf!!

Check this out...a bookshelf that leans but doesn’t topple over. It measures 12.5" deep x 29" wide x 63.5" high. The website on which it's featured says it’s made out of sonokeling–or Indian Rosewood–veneer. However, it looks like another job for ye ole 2 x 6's, if you ask me. (P.S. I'll take the guy reading the book too. Grrr.)
