The Drawer Balcony

By DIY Maven

Bloomframe - Innovative Window (3) 1

A while back we had the drawer bedroom, which was spectacular but probably not practical for your average home/condo owner. This drawer balcony, however, is conceivable--in a practical sense and in a pocketbook sense. Called Bloomframe, the prototype was designed by Hofman Dujardin Architects. Below is a video of the balcony in action. Remarkable.

How To Make a 'Sham-delier' With PDF Template

I made this 'Sham-delier' to give my balcony a little indoor/outdoor ooh la la. It was inspired in part by Philippe Starck's Ghost Chairs, I love the whole classic shape/modern material juxtaposition. Anyway, if you want to make your own here's what you'll need:

  • Two Flexible plastic chopping boards, mine came from the Dollar Store but Ikea does them too.
  • Two flameless tea lights, again, Dollar Store finds, but you could try here

Well done my neighbours for making the world a bit better with green. I suspect the folks who live here are actually elves, as they have been able to create a lovely green spot for themselves (and us snoopy neighbours) on their North-facing, 11th floor balcony. Their dash of green vastly improves what may be the worlds ugliest building.

  • a spirit level
  • a few coloured acetate sheets
  • a craft knife.

First give the wall a quick swipe with sugar soap or something, as stickiness and dirt are mortal enemies. Next roughly plot your d » READ MORE

Turn your patio or balcony into a vegetable garden.

By DIY Maven

Rental Decorating suggests that having a container garden is actually easier to control than a traditional in-the-ground garden. Plants can be moved if they’re not getting the right sun. Drainage can be altered by putting more hole in containers, watering is more efficient and some common garden pests, like slugs, aren’t even an issue in such gardens. This is all good news for people who don’t have a yard! So, if you live in an apartment or con » READ MORE

Essential Outdoor Design Tip: Take Pictures

By cushionsandumbrellas

Designing or redesiging your outdoor space has a different set of challenges than your indoor space.  The one thing in common is you, and how you want to treat it.  What most of our clients ask when starting on their outdoor room is:

"Where should I start?"

You see, for the interior of you home, you can create a plan.  Start with one room and let your design unfold.   Or plan it out room by room.  But with the outside of your room, everythi » READ MORE

By balubalu

I like the idea behind this window that transforms to a balcony, but on the other hand - if you have space for a balcony - why not always have one?
