DIY - Baby Changing Table

By suzyrenovator

created on: 08/13/08

I've always loved giving old or antique items a new lease on life by transforming them or re-purposing them for use as something other than what they were originally intended.  A perfect example - the dirty, old singer sewing machine base that was picked up for next to nothing at a flea market then left to sit in my garage collecting more dirt and taking up space until I could find a use for it.  When I became pregnant and began the fun pro » READ MORE

A Priceless Hand Tool

By DIY Maven

created on: 08/11/08

The duty of a hand tool is a simple one. Its existence is predicated upon helping you get a job done and done well. For instance, a screwdriver once owned by Thomas Edison is going to have more monetary and emotional significance than my handy 4 in 1. Or the Stanley No. 3 level pictured above. It was the only possession my dad had that once belonged » READ MORE

Can You Really Re-cover an Old Lampshade?

By ModHomeEcTeacher

created on: 03/04/08

No, I didn't recover this.  When Shabby Chic still ran the antique malls, this retro shade was huddled in the corner like a weird uncle.  I think it cost me around $12.00.  That purchse was a few years ago.

But you can, I repeat, CAN, recover an old shade you might find at Goodwill or a flea market.  They are ruined once the big crease takes place.  These step by step directions make a DIY lampshade re-do a real possibility.  I used to k » READ MORE

By Chrisjob

Help me identify this desk? please?

By bhikkhu

We came across this desk at an antique mall a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, someone had purchased it just a few minutes before we had gotten there.
