Techhie Trade Show or Mid-Mod Chat Station
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Donnie Deutsch always says "Look at what everyone is doing, and do the opposite." That's what Mr. ModHomeEc got when he asked me to help him with booth decor at a medical techhie trade show he's doing. Once I saw all the dark blues, silvers, tech signs and graphics, I knew his booth would stand out, good or bad, I have yet to hear. The vintage living-room-like setting already attracted many customers, just during set up. Time will tell if h » READ MORE
Cloned Eyes Lamps
By DIY Maven
French Design Group 5.5 Designers want your eyes. To clone that is. You simply fill out a form stipulating your primary eye color as well as submitting a close-up picture of your peepers. Glassblower Livio Serena then uses the information to create some creepy lamps. Give a set to the object of your affection, throw in a copy of ‘Every Breath You Take’, and you’ll make stalker of the year. Via.

Very cool lamp made from old cassettes
By Doug Aamoth
I've long since gotten rid of my old cassette tapes but if you've got some sitting around, this is a very cool-looking project. This "Cassette Tape Lamp" was designed by Transparent House out of San Francisco and quite simply consists of a bunch of old tapes inside their transparent cases, glued together. The light patterns that the tapes give off look really cool. Note to self: find some old tapes.

Make an Oil Burning Light Bulb Lamp
By DIY Maven![]()
Bumpus at instructables set out to do a DIY version of a fancy designer–aka ridiculously expensive–light bulb lamp. Using seemingly odds and ends that included ‘a clean light bulb, a shoe lace, a metal bottle cap, a rather large washer/spacer, [and] two little magnets’ he accomplished this feat admirably. Delicate, yes. Leave it unattended, never. Clever, absolutely. Via.

Magic Lamps?
By lilybee
Lamps, powered by Dumbledore or possibly rechargeable batteries. Candela Glow Lanterns by OXO ($39.99 for two) sit on their base to recharge and light up automatically when removed, they last for 8 hours after a full charge and unlike candles you can leave them unattended (and not worry about still having a house to come back to). There are different sizes and shapes available including these funky little slug chaps.

Finally, a use for all those pudding containers
By Doug Aamoth
I'm not really a pudding guy, so it's hard to say how long it'd take me to empty enough pudding cups to build a sweet pudding cup lampshade like this. It looks cool enough that a trip to Costco to load up on a pallet of after-dinner treats is starting to seem like a pretty good idea, though.
This particular lampshade is made from 70 empty containers. Its creator, Kianee, says that the containers are simply held together with little rings and t » READ MORE

Puppetronics.
By ChrisjobFrom MocoLoco:
"Lighting by Georgiosi is influenced by music and objects of everyday. The Puppetronics concept is translated into a giant UV sculpture of a dancing puppet not unlike a jellyfish, synchronized to the music and suitable for any rave. Other items that are used in Georgiosi lighting include speakers, saws, screws, rubber balls and marbles, but you can also find slinky lights, scouring pads, mesh and sink strainers."

Cheese Lamps

Architectural student Andrés Moreno has a lamp collection entitled, 'Lamparas Caseus', which is Latin for Cheese Lamps. Although they're made of MDF and not baby Swiss, the name is still appropriate. DIYable? I’d bet my freshly-grated-Parmesan-loving behind on it. Via.

Mushroom floor lamps, fungus among us
By Doug Aamoth
I have to admit that I'm not a huge mushroom enthusiast. I think they're kind of gross-looking out in the wild. But if you like that look, why not bring it into your home and plop it down on your floor? Actually, it's not quite clear if these will actually be sold (or are being sold) of if they're just concepts right now.
Either way, it's a pretty interesting idea. The light is provided by "interchangeable and adjustable LEDs embedded in their gi » READ MORE
