Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club, The Finale: Loft Design
By DIY MavenLast night's Top Design wrap-up had to be one of the most anticlimactic finales in the history of reality t.v. Much like a visit to the dentist, I was glad when it was over.
(The next 4 pics are of Matt's loft.)

The Task
The two remaining contestants were asked to design–for themselves, acting as their own client–a 1700 square foot loft in downtown L.A. They had 2 months to plan the design, which they did at their respective homes, and 5 days to » READ MORE
Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club, Week 9: Living Room Swank
By DIY Maven
Last night's episode of TD proved the cream rises to the top. Too bad it was curdled. And orange.
The Task
The three remaining designers drew on past Elle Decor magazine covers for inspiration to create a posh living room. Not Elle-like was their budget: 7500 bucks. This bit of news provoked wailing and gnashing of teeth among the contestants. Could they possibly produce a fabulous room on such a paltry sum??

Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club, Week 8: Bedroom Suite
By DIY Maven
Last night’s episode of TD proved that it should have begun with just four contestants. Okay, maybe it wouldn’t have been much of a competition, but it would have been a much better television show.
The Task
The remaining designers were asked to create a suite for a fictional boutique hotel based upon one of four elements. Goil drew fire, Andrea earth, Matt water and Carisa air. With their budget, which, again, was more than many people make in » READ MORE
Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club, Week 7: Chef’s Dining Room
By DIY Maven
Bravo T.V.’s Top Design seemed to turn a corner last night. It was actually good. Although, I have a feeling the turnaround has come too late, having lost their audience in the mire of crap shoveled up for our viewing pleasure earlier on in the series. Oh well.
The Task
The five remaining designers were asked to create a chef’s table for the new restaurant of a mystery chef/judge. They were told the chef preferred mid-20th century modern, arts & » READ MORE
Curbly’s Top Design Fan(?) Club, Week 6: Party Time
By DIY MavenOkay, last night’s installment of my new favorite show to hate wasn’t half bad. The profuse use the effenheimer may have had something to do with it. Such a versatile word, don’t cha think?
The Task
The six remaining designers were broken up into two teams and were asked to design/plan a party for Bicardi Limon, which would take place in two 30' by 40' tents to be erected on the plaza of the PDC. They were to incorporate the five senses into » READ MORE
Curbly TD Rant Club Week #5: Garage Make-Over
By DIY MavenLast night’s episode of Bravo’s Top Design was a turning point for me. Somewhere in the middle, I realized I was obliged to watch it, but not because of these Curbly posts. No, it was more like being compelled to watch a car wreck. You don’t want to look, but something about the magnitude of the disaster makes you take a peek anyway.

The Task
The seven remaining designers were asked to re-design the garage of the Bell family. The Bell’s had » READ MORE
Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club Week 3: Life’s a Beach
By DIY MavenAfter last week’s episode of Bravo TV’s Top Design, worry set in. Had Bravo’s promising new reality TV show turned into a watered down HGTV offering? No! (And thank you, Bravo, for the pics of the hunky carpenters. Grrr!)

The Task
The remaining contestants were each given a surprise package that contained various beach paraphernalia, which included a post card from three different tropical locales: Miami, St. Tropez and Tahiti. They were the » READ MORE
Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club, Week 2: Child’s Play
By DIY Maven
Last night’s episode of Bravo’ TV’s Top Design was less about drama and more about design.
The Task
The ten remaining designers were each given brief bios of clients for whom they were to design a 12' by 12' bedroom. An added challenge was that the designers had to make the beds in their rooms. Also, their furniture budget was ‘only’ $8K, which produced much vexation among the contestants as last week’s bankroll was $50K. What is a poor desig » READ MORE

Welcome Curbly’s Top Design Fan Club!
By DIY Maven
The premier episode of TD did not disappoint! Producers of the show didn’t waste a second. We were quickly introduced to the collection of contestants and then the game began.
The Task
The 12 contestants, who were paired up into six teams, where given 5 objects to serve as inspiration to design a room for a "mystery client." Among the objects were a Cupie Doll head, a 1970's Lucite TV and a disco ball. Hmm.
They had a "budget" of $50K per team fo » READ MORE
