I was suppose to be concentrating on stuff like this. Owners concern was the high electrical bill. One reason was small diameter wire commonly used in Brazil, including new construction. Also, I saw many "free air" splices, not joined in an electrical box in wall but just dangling in air w/ wire nuts and/or electrical tape. Higher resistance to electrical flow=more wasted energy, in simple language.
