Just to give an idea of furniture prices in New Zealand, this is the cheapest chair available at the Warehouse, which is just about the cheapest chain of randomness in this country. The above chair was originally covered in itchy black fabric with a tendency to pill. It was NZ$40. We bought it the day we moved into our flat because, well, we didn't actually have any seating. I bought a metre of this jersey fabric at Geoff's Emporium on Dominion Road for $4 and went to work. The finished product isn't fantastic, but it's a dramatic improvement until we find some chairs that we love.
