I don't actually know how famous this guy is outside the spheres of art and architecture and I cant remember what line of research I was following when I first came across his name but even with an useless short and long term memory the work of this deconstructionist artist remains etched in my consciousness. Basically he would cut big holes in buildings with a chainsaw and by doing so create a work of art by making something normal into something special by subtracting Wall Hole a piece, in this case usually a wall or a piece of floor or roof. This is an concept that struck a cord with me, the idea that stripping an object down, removing a component or exposing the mechanisms that make a structure stand can make it more significant, interesting and ultimately more beautiful. I find that by keeping this simple idea in mind I view a variety of thing in a whole new way and I sometimes wonder if anyone else feels the same. By the way I'm not suggesting that anyone should take a chainsaw to any part of their house, certainly not before isolating the power and turning off the water first, Oh and your house could fall down.
