Self-Sufficient Housing / IAAC 1st Advanced Architecture Contest

By roadvermin

This little handbook is a great read for anyone interested in the future of self-sufficient housing.

Entries from architecture students and professionals from all over the world participated in this first off competition organised by the IAAC in Spain. The book is a comprehensive compilation of all entries competing in the categories of 'Self-Sufficient Collective Housing' and 'Self-Sufficient Single Housing'. Each indexed chapter is introduced thoughtfully and lists entries according to their design inspiration.

I particularly enjoyed the entries from Asia/South America for their inventiveness and admired France/Italy for their creative planning and exquisite asthetic detail in their submissions.

The reoccurring themes include mobility, environmental sustainability and the use of neglected public spaces.
