Passing Through....

By roadvermin

Hello Curbly!our homemade optical synth/theremin

Just wanted to say Roadvermin and I are still alive. It's great to see the community here thriving, so much great content.

We still have much to share and talk about, but we've been busy setting up our new business. It still involves DIY...anyone interested in music? ;-)

Gore Design Co. - Recycled Concrete

By roadvermin

Via Treehugger :

design sink by Gore Design Co.

"Gore Design Co. specializes in designing and creating eco-friendly concrete products using a proprietary blend of reclaimed materials and industrial byproducts they call "Recycrete."

I love how this company creates well designed products while conscious of the environment. The designs are sleek, simple and sexy and it's recycled. Their products include sinks, countertops and miscellaneous furniture.

Can You Fit a Lamp in Your Living Room? Can You Fit a Horse?

By roadvermin Horse playWe were in Paris last weekend to check out a gig and as usually happens when when you find yourself in a foreign city with no place to call a home spent many many hours wandering the streets window shopping. I've noticed Paris has a huge number of stylish furniture and design stores with a difference but when we peered into the window of this shop we were greeted by the sight of a full size, matt black horse (Not a real horse ok) with a lamp moun » READ MORE

DIY USB Powered Christmas Tree...

By roadvermin

Well its that time of year again the streets of Lyon are awash with bodies running here and there doing as many errands as they can before the whole country closes up for the Holiday. The local Franprix is packed with people buying booze and food so they can celebrate the weekend with a fuzzy head and a full belly.

What will be under RoadVermins Tree?

By roadvermin

It was so so hard to decide what to choose from the myriad of DIY delights available at Amazon. This was made even harder by the fact that alot of the really cool stuff doesnt ship overseas which concerns us as we live in France. So I had to say bye bye to the beautiful Dremel multi tool, farewell to the twelve month subscription to Make magazine and au revoir to the nifty compression clamps I spotted.

So after much surfing and dissapointment I de » READ MORE

Environmentally Friendly Replacement for Halogen Bulbs...

By roadvermin

I was looking around the Farnell website the other day, as we are renovating our apartment and want to install energy efficient lighting throughout the flat, and I came across these LED replacements for Halogen bulbs. Halogens are notoriously energy hungry, the most common size people have in their homes is typically 50 Watts. I also find they generate a large quantity of heat during operation compared to normal bulbs. They do provide very good l » READ MORE

Sort of a Long Term Project I'd Say...

By roadvermin Organic Table...Saw this on Boing Boing a few minutes ago, basically these are examples of furniture created by training the trunks of living fruit trees. The history section of this site suggests that this is a practice that goes back a long way and would probably be a cool project for anybody with a combined interest in gardening and furniture design.

By roadvermin Bike Chair...If you have read our other blog you would know we are passionate about cycling and recycling and so I was thrilled when I came across this company some months ago while surfing for something totally unrelated. The Day of Design...

By roadvermin

biennale design st. etienneHi again! This week we visited the International Design Biennale in St. Etienne in the south of France. We spent about ten hours walking around the three main exhibition titled - Cohabitation, Eden ADN, GOOOOD Food, Juste Avant La Transformation, Demain C'est Aujourd'hui and Between Art and Design - which were housed in three reclaimed old factories in the Cite duwood house Design.

Many of the exhibits demonstrated pieces which incorporated the themes of » READ MORE
