I got this chair for free on the side of the road. The most labor intensive part of the makeover was scraping and sanding off the old finish, which had become beaded on the surface. Then i painted it and gave it 3 coats of clear lacquer.

I bought this chair at a thrift store for $2.50. I removed the old caning on the seat, which had torn. I cut along the groove where the caning had been attached with a jigsaw. I spraypainted the wooden pieces bright red. I upholstered the inside part of the seat and screwed it back together.

I got this old 1960s teachers desk from a surplus store. It was a dark turquoise color and had some scratches on the side and rust in the corners of the drawers, but work surface was in perfect shape and it was solid as a rock. I took it apart and spray painted it brown, then aded a couple of colored circles to make it match the wall art.

It is a bit difficult to see the pattern in this picture, but the diamond sisal works beautifully in this casually elegant room. Interior design by Caldwell-Beebe.

this is a closer view of the harlequin patterning i did on the photo wall... was very easy to do - just a bit of patience, a lot of masking tape & 2 quarts of white paint - one flat & one gloss...

Again, with my fake screen printing technique. I spent HOURS doing these, but it was all for a good cause. When the SPCA would hold adoption events at Petsmart and the like, people wouldn't always be able to tell which animals were pets and which were up for adoption. This was my cheap (free to them) solution. I didn't sew any of these vests or bandannas at the time, but I applied vinyl stencils and painted them (3-5 coats on each). At one point, over 50 dogs sported these in a parade in downtown Kalamazoo, Michigan.

It was all a labor of love. I miss the SPCA of SW Michigan.
