Redecorating on the cheap
By ravenmadenI was pretty tired of my "same old living room." You know, you want a change of surroundings. I've been reading Amy Sedaris' "I Like Everybody - Entertaining Under the Influence" (great book, by the way!) and there's one tongue-in-cheek tip she said: Redecorate your apartment every month, that way you feel like you're moving all the time! I thought that was hysterical at the time, then I thought, why NOT do that every so often to alleviate the boredom? So, a friend of mine sent out a e-mail with a few things for sale out of her apartment because she'd purchased new, and one was an area rug for $10, in red. Now, my living room has been in cool colors for the past 5 years or so, and I wanted to warm it up. I'd seen a red leather couch I liked, but I JUST bought my chocolate brown micro-suede one last year, and that is just not responsible to get another at this time. So, when I got the red-hued rug home, I decided the whole room gets a facelift! I set off to Target and found tons of darling table napkins and placemats in JUST the colors I needed! I made a haul of several of them, mixing up the patterns for fun, and went home and sewed up nifty new pillow covers for all the ones I have and making a few additional with some batting and assorted notions I had stored. I bought new door curtains for the patio doors, the rug and the napkins and I had a brand new living room!
I'm attaching photos of the before (cool colors) and the after (YAY! warms!).
