Just bought a 1960's ranch in need of some updating and I've got the renovation bug.  Until I feel educated enough to begin some knocking down of walls, I'm looking for ways to make some needed items that are a bit pricey/mundane in the store such as bookshelves, a play table for my almost 2 year old, maybe even tackle a platform bed.

My husband and I have traveled extensively and our sense of style involves trying to incorporate all the little treasures we have picked up along the way into a modern, clean-lined sensibility that has a playful, colorful streak.  Also, everything must stand up to a curious, climbing toddler and dogs who like to wrassle.
