I'm an independent Certified Kitchen Designer, practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area. 99% of my work is residential remodeling.
I usually work with clients who have "difficult" and challenging kitchens, baths, or other spaces; difficult rooms that do not lend themselves to DIY design; although some are DIYers when it comes to doing the work.
My clientele is the middle class; homeowners who educate themselves on the process and want to have a hand in every decision.
I do not sell product any more. Instead I act as an advisor and advocate to educate my clients about their choices in the marketplace and how the "system" works.
I prepare complete plans for permits on CAD and also do lighting design for my projects, bringing in other pros as required by the project and the clients.
I have 25 years experience, spaceplanning and designing residential spaces. Prior to my move into design I was a small-time cabinetmaker and remodeler of kitchens and baths.
I maintain a web site, kitchenartworks.com, that I established in 2001 to contain all the repetitive infomation I was constantly faxing clients in the days before the Web. I also comment on three blogs I own: Kitchen-Exchange, a blog on the process with links to items of interest I run across on the web and Q&A from clients and strangers witth questions, Kitschy Kitchens, strange and odd kitchens, and Appliance Notes, on kitchen appliances.
