Patio

Description:

When we bought the house, there were these awful square cement blocks laid out as the foundation for the patio. It was boxy and not nice! What we chose to do was reuse them and then lay them out as you see in the picture. Our only costs: landscaping fabric, sand, and trim. Much nicer now and more organic looking. Not to mention we were able to recycle the existing materials! I'm thinking now that I would like to paint them with cement paint, but we'll see...

I like it!  Have you tought about using oil based wood stain in a few different colors to give it even more of an organic/natural look?

That's a great idea! Thanks. Do you think the oil based wood stains would hold up on cement with lots of foot traffic?

I saw it done on a home improvement show a few years back.  They did it on a patio, added a clear sealer too.  Ofcourse they don't show what it looked like down the road, but I do remember they said there'd be some wear, but thought it would add to the aged stone look they were going for.

Just thought I'd add that you could try it in an inconspicuos place first.   Even a patch in the garage where you walk alot.  We're planning to stain our garage floor this way when we get the time. Too many other things to do that take priority right now though.

good idea! yes, too many things to do and too little time -- isn't that the truth!
