just bought my first house.  it's in great shape but the decorating sucks.  i need to flip the bathroom and kitchen for sure.

Paint Brands

By nollidge There-is_medium

I'm going to be starting my first time painting indoors pretty soon here, and I'm trying to make sense of all the brands out there.  A guy at work said he's been pleased with Behr (which is on sale this weekend at Home Depot), but then my aunt swears by Benjamin Moore.

Is there a huge difference between brands?  Do they all require more than one coat?  Are there any brands to avoid?

Thanks!

Hey nollidge. Your aunt is right. Benjamin Moore is fabulous; however, we've found that Pittsburgh Paint is much cheaper and is--no kidding--nearly as good. (We've used Moore and Pittsburgh in our house.) Personally, I don't care for Behr, or, god forbid, Dutchboy. I don't care what paint manufacturers say about 1 coat coverage, either. I really don't think it can be done. 2 coats always seem to be the minimum--even with Benjamin Moore. BTW, Moore has great colors, so I shop stores that carry it for paint chips, which I then take to my Pittsburgh dealer who color-matches. Hope this helps!
