Hang 'Em High Curtain Advice
By ModHomeEcTeacher
Curtain hanging can become such a dilemma that some of us just give up and opt for blinds.
This Young House tackles the problem in the bedroom of eight year old, Olivia. As you can see, the trio of windows combine to make an architectural statement that you wouldn't want to cover up behind drapes. However, a girl needs her privacy.

To maintain the view, a set of Ikea curtains were hung high above and to the right and left of the window. This gives the illusion of a larger window while the view out the window into the lush green woods is intact.
There's a handy measuring tutorial right here and also check out the before and after posts of Olivia's entire bedroom makeover.

A word of caution with the Ikea grommet white cotton drapes. I had purchased 2 packages some time ago and more recently 5 additional packages (I need to stop the bleed-through light at the edges of our roller blinds - we have lots of windows in our bedroom). First two packages were great - extra long and I had to cut off about 18" and was able to do a 4" blind hem. The newer panels were much shorter and after hemming 2 panels with a 3" hem, found the next panel only had 1 1/2" to work with for a hem. Needless to say, lots of ripping out and changing hem style! If you are needing more than one package, hang them all before you start to hem. The newer packages were a lighter weight cotton and not as long or as wide. They are still great value for the price though!
