skylight change?

By megrockstar

I am going to replace an old skylight this summer, I'm looking for any hints and/or suggestions. It is above my stairs and set back, and people don't even notice it. I'd like to make it more noticable. i have a nearly flat roof, very slight pitch...

I've learned from watching my dad do 4 skylights that you absolutly can-not cheap out sealing them or they WILL leak at some point in the future and probably at the worst time.

If it snows where you are you might want to consider putting an extra pane of flat glass in the box to increase insulation, not so much to keep your house warm (snow is a good insulator) but because the warmth of your house will melt the snow on the skylight and it can create ice dams and stuff.
