Here's a shot of the whole shelf area.

Spent a long night weeding through my clothes closet. A recent weight loss (with a lot of effort!) meant it was time to part with some old favorites. I made the goodbye easier by creating colorful bin labels and treating myself to a shopping trip.

Finally found something to perk up the empty space near the bathroom mirror. Found a huge bag of letters at the Goodwill for $3. They are made of a styrofoam backing with a metalic front. There wasn't a 'B' in the bunch, so I cut & pasted an 'R' and a 'P'. A shot of hammered copper spray paint and some double-stick tape finished it off. I dry brushed some copper along the mirrors beaded inner edge to add a little shine there as well.

This table was made by bolting together three medium vintage hard-shell suitcases and one larger one on top.

This was inspired by a post I saw here on Curbly. Unfortunately I can't remember who posted it or the name of the guy who made the lamps like these, and the tags under which I assumed the post would be found turned up nothing. A while back I made a similar shade by cutting flowers out of old white DVD cases, but it lives in my shed now, haggared and lonely. I made this one by wrapping chickenwire around a couple of those dryer-hose-clamps, the ones with the little screw with which to tighten. Once the wire was secured, I loosened the clamps a little to tighten the wire. Then, I hot-glued the flowers all around. I made the flowers by cutting out a template and then using it to cut out literally hundreds of petals from scrapbook paper, or cardstock. Then, I folded them in such a way that they sort of popped, and then glued five together per flower. Once the flowers were glued all around the shade, I made some smaller ones and glued each to a short length of metal clotheshanger (my hubby has awesome clippers that get through anything). The flowers popping out farthest are glued to the clotheshangers, which are wrapped around the chickenwire. In hindsight, it would have been loads easier to have attached those first, then glued the larger flowers directly to the shade. You learn as you go! Anyways, the only thing I had to pay for was the swag lamp kit, which I got from Canadian Tire for 20 bucks. You can get them at any hardware store. Everything else was hiding in drawers or behind doors around the house! I have to start gifting my lampshades, I have at least one or two in each room of my house now lol.

The idea is that if you have one of those big cheap shelves then you can build a functional and affordable workspace.
1. Determine what you can use as the worktop.
2. Screw one side of the shelf into the wall, leaving the right amount of space from the corner of the room for you worktop.
3. Measure and install brackets to the inner walls of the 'station' to support the worktop and additional shelves.
3. Cut shallower (is that a word?) pieces of wood as the shelves and
4. Place your wood on the brackets.
* To make this look more like a built-in rather than a thrown-in, buy some moulding or trim and nail it to the front of the surfaces to hide the mounting brackets, then paint the whole shebang the same color as the walls.
* Instead of more shelves beneath the desk, screw some coasters into a board to use as a wheel-out/in for a big basket of crap or you computer tower, etc.

Well, you win some, you lose some. Too bad I fixed the worse-off chair first, because it sits crooked and I don't plan on doing the other one. Too complicated. I should have took the advice of the sew shop lady and phoned the upholsterer. This will be my new computer desk chair, instead of my kitchen counter stools. *sigh*
