Eye Candy: Modern Gothic Interiors (and How to Get Them)

by on Sep 27, 2011

Modern and gothic are two words that we don’t often see near each other. Especially right next to each other. But for this little Eye Candy diversion, that’s exactly where they are. So what IS modern gothic? Take a look.

For those who think gothic can’t be charming just look at the window seat pictured above. So sweet.

Streamlined and moody, this room by Cero is a nice example of modern gothic.

As in this bedroom, gothic goes hand in hand with romantic.

‘Uptown gothic’ might be a good way to describe this dining room

Or how about a modern gothic bathroom? LOVE the curtain of chains.

So how do we go about getting a modern gothic look? Well, first we should probably eschew that highly ornate carved wood furniture typical to the traditional style and stick to simple and sleek lines. Other ornamental things that aren’t necessarily mandatory in the modern gothic interior are crosses or gargoyles. (Although I do adore a good gargoyle.) We should, however, think ornate lighting, like chandeliers. Even though heavy drapery are typical in gothic interiors, we see from the pictures above that they are not essential either. Ultimately drama–whether from sheers or chains–that’s the way to go. And, of course, black, silver and gray (silver) are really the predominate colors of choice.

  1. Where would it be possible to buy the black  lamp shade in the bedroom picture?
