Nice Color... What Does it Mean?

By lilybee

Grey and Brown, and occasionally white that instantly tuns to Grey-Brown. Those are the colors of winter in the city, and frankly... Blah. Which makes the idea of Color Therapy really appealing. The main idea is that the colors that you surround yourself with can change your emotional, spiritual, and even physical well-being. Which makes sense really, this time of year I am completely drawn to yellows and (eyewateringly bright) pinks, which according to Color Therapy is just what is needed to counteract the winter blahs.

So here's a breakdown of what colours mean and how they affect you:

Red is a powerful colour, it's associated with vitality and ambition and can help overcome negative thoughts. But it's also associated with anger, and too much can cause irritability and impatience.

Pink is soothing and calming, and gives a feeling of gentle warmth and nurturing. It lessons feelings of irritation and aggression, and creates a sense of protection. It also alleviates loneliness, despondency, oversensitivity, and vulnerability.

Green has a strong affinity with nature and empathy. Light green creates a feeling of comfort, relaxation, calmness, it can balance and soothe turbulent emotions.

Yellow is a happy, bright, and uplifting color, (think sunny days). It is associated with the mind. It aids memory and clear thinking, decision making and good judgment. It also helps with organization, assimilation of new ideas, and the ability to see different points of view. It builds self-confidence and encourages an optimistic attitude. Good stuff!

Blue is a cool, calming color and is also associated with the mind. Light and soft blues help you feel quiet and protected and can help alleviate insomnia. Blue inspires mental control, clarity, and creativity. Midnight blue has a strong sedative effect on the mind, and nurtures intuitive thought.

White is the color of purity. It is an all-around color of protection, bringing peace and comfort, and can help create clarity of thought and spirit. If you need time and space to reflect on your life, white can give you that freedom. Too much white, however, can be cold and isolating.

Does color have an effect on you? Do you agree with these meanings? Would you let it influence how you decorated?
