Eggs Over Easy

By lilybee

Urban chickens, they drink Starbucks and take a yoga class at the Y. and they live here in the Omlet Eglu

I know beccajo posted about these here, but I was wondering if anybody had actually gotten one.

My dad, who admittedly lives in rural France (which is SO not an urban environment) is eagerly awaiting the delivery of one of these. The makers have big claims, they reckon you only need a 20' x 30' garden, you can move the whole shebang one handed and simply hose it down when it gets grubby, the house not the chickens, chickens HATE water. Also 'cause chicken ladies can lay without men folk around you don't have the whole cockadoodledoo issue, which is a very good thing, 'cause boy does that ever get old fast.

When I was growing up my mum used to keep ducks in our garden. In London. Ducks get HUGE, they took over our delicate ornamental pond, poked holes in the lawn and terrified the dog. But chickens, chickens are much nicer to have around, they're intrinsically funny, especially the little fluffy headed ornamental Silkies, get two and you have a feathery slapstick double act.
I'll keep you posted on the chicken situation chez my dad, but we're expecting big things.

We've had an Eglu for over a year now and absolutely love it. It's as good as the Omlet folks make it out to be, and I'm very pleased with how easy the thing is to keep clean for our two Plymouth Barred Rock hens. You can read about our experience over on the Urban Chickens blog if you're looking for more info to help you make a decision (I hope you decide yes!)

I don't know about chickens, but I would LOVE to buy the rabbit version for my bunny. Please keep me posted on how it goes. I'd love to see a review.
