Is it possible to stencil an upholstered sofa?
By leslieinbham
I have this sofa with a wicker frame and natural-colored cotton twill upholstery on the cushions and interior. I have these three redheaded little boys with the expected age-appropriate tendencies to spill/paint/draw/leak...
So, like I said, I have this sofa.
I've covered it for a good long time now, but lately I've been sort of cleaning the upholstery with my rug cleaner upholstery attachment thingie. Most of the really gucky stuff comes out but there remains many different shades of that there natural-color twill depending on god-knows-what-or-why. So it's clean-ish and I am bloody tired of trying to cover it (don't let the good folks at Surefit fool you--NOTHING is sure fit when three year old twins are involved) and so I » READ MORE
Need brainstorming re: grey water thingie
By leslieinbham
Okay, my son's crib is now a compost bin and while he's a bit mystified to see it put to such use, I think it's working quite well. So onward, yes? I spent all summer with a hose from my washer discharging into a large and elevated plastic trashcan and then siphoning that water out to my garden manually. This required an acrobat's timing as the trashcan could only handle a single leg of the cycle or it got a bit ugly. Also, the siphoning was not reliable. In a D4 drought, tho, it was just one of the many things we had to learn to do. Anyway, NOW I want to replace the discharge hose of the washer (that wrinkly U-shaped thing) with a more flexible hose that I can adapt to a 5/8 garden hose, thus removing the middle man » READ MORE
Looking for input re: transforming crib into compost bin
By leslieinbham
Well, I know it's not the first thing you might do with a crib. Or maybe it's not the first thing you might use to make a compost bin, but I'm a semi-old hand at composting and I *think* this could work pretty well.
Took the twins' cribs down last week (utter and completely bedlamous) and I.....just...can't....seem...to...part...with....the damned things. So many possibilities. So I have this wooden spindle-type one that I think...I *think* would be a snazzy, stylish, and generally successful compost bin. I'm thinking I'd saw the legs off the head/foot board portions and leave enough to sink it into the ground. The I would just assemble it like it's supposed to be assembled for standard use. The only changes would be » READ MORE
Have many small boys and very few TVs left. Need help configuring this TV shelf suspended from wall cables, please?
By leslieinbham
We're down to the very last tv...the one my husband had before we were married...the 13 inch remote-less one on which all the people look slightly jaundiced. This tv is already on top of a dresser and it's like Times Square for my boys to watch it as it is. But, just like mama said, they are growing so the TV must go higher.
There's a pic of the shelf I want in that "trading spaces: make it yours" book--essentially looks like a deepish wood shelf suspended by metal cables. No instructions. Just lovely pic. I suspect that anyone else looking at the pic would not even bother w/instructions--self-explanatory and how simple can it be? and all that. But such a person I am not. And well, even tho the boys now outnumber our » READ MORE
