How to make funky, cheap, and arty coasters
By lafemmedramatiqueMy birthday was Monday, and I had been dropping hints to my boyfriend like crazy to get me "The Starving Artist's Way" by Nava Lubelski.... and, like the good boyfriend that he is, I got the book!
So, I've been reading it off and on since I got it, and I came across a project that is uber simple, and very fun. Hot Glue Coasters (well, she suggested hot glue table cloth or placemats, but I went small scale for my first project).... Basically, just pick some colorful paper (i used the grocery advertisements, myself) and let your hot glue drip all over it... then, peel off the excess paper... I personally went back over it with another layer of clear glue drips when I was done, but you don't have to (when I did it the second time I put it inside a metal can lid.... FYI, hot glue dries really fast on metal, and peals off easily, so it's a good thing to put it on for that last layer)...
I think they came out nicely... My little sister thinks they're cool, but she said that they're too small... I think that I agree, and I can't decide if I should mount them on something or not.... prehaps glue 'em to some funky colored cork or something.... we'll see... (if you have suggestions, then suggest away!)
Hope you all like them!

Chris-
It's funny that you should say that! You're actually the reason I heard about the book! Someone posted about the chandelier in her book, but they heard about it elsewhere... and you made a comment about how you saw it in her book, so I looked at the website and fell in love... so, in all actuality, I should be thanking you... haha!
