Oh, what to do... I'm coming undone at the seams!

By lafemmedramatique

So, this isn't really your typical curbly question, but I'm sure it's a question that I would have to ask on here eventually, just with something else... so, I'm asking it anyway!

I recently made a really adorable skirt, and I wore it to my sister's wedding, and then I wore it again today and I realized that there's a tiny hole at the side! It's along the stiching and isn't that noticable, but since I've already trimmed the fabric there really isn't much I can do to restich it w/o causeing it to pucker.

Currently I have a piece of tape on it, which is sufficing well to keep it closed, but what I really want to know is if there is some more permenant solution to repairing issues with undone stitches that can't be resewn!

I do a lot of sewing on pillows and other home decor things, but I'm still new to doing clothing, which is why I have no idea what to do!

I figured that I would probably have this kind of issue at some point with a pillow or something, so i figured I would just ask it here because, well, curbliers are amazing and pretty much know everything!

You might try using"Fray Check". It's a liquid that you put on seams or edges to prevent them from unraveling. Joann's should carry it.

Thanks to you, also, lilybee! I know that eventually this might come up again, so it's nice to know for the future!

This is just a theory but... you could try darning it with a strip of silk tissue and a like-coloured thread (it's what they do with antique fabrics at the textile restoration department of the V&A museum).

I think what you do is put the silk, (or some other lightweight put strong fabric) on the inside of the hole and then darn onto it with teeny-tiny stitches, enclosing the raggedy undone edges...

Anyway, good luck with it...
