So, I finally have some photos of my apartment!

By lafemmedramatique Curbly5

I moved in back in May, but I finally have pictures now!  Ribbon and cloths pins for hanging photos, and a hand painted initial, which I painted myself   these are from aliciabock.etsy.com.... not going to lie to you all, i printed them out myself, because I'm a poor college student... Normally I wouldn't do such a thing (since it's kind of stealing) but I do plan to purchace some of her photography eventually when I have money, so I went ahead and did this to tide myself over...   One of my fav. projects, which of course was difficult to photograph! I took... »MORE

Um, I kind of have the coolest roommate ever...

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

So, I get home from yet another weekend that was eaten up by other people dictating what I have to do (oh, how I love my family), and the apartment seems to be torn apart, almost.... there is new stuff everywhere! My roommates locker thing from her room is now in the living room, there is a dresser in the living room, a table a 3-drawer plastic thingy.... Um, I just kind of went "huh?" and then promptly wrote her a note on our message board (an antique 4 pane window we have hanging in the kitchen that we write... »MORE

How do I get this weird black stuff off my walls?

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

I just moved into my apartment earlier this week, and I was moving in with a girl who had lived there for a year already... her old roommate had to move, so I just moved into her room... so my roommate thought everything was fine and dandy for me to move in after her old roomie got out, but then when all the stuff was gone, you could see this weird gray/black film all over the walls in my part of the room! (I should clarify that my room is part of the living room, only sectioned off... and the... »MORE

So, I was looking for ideas for artwork for my apartment....

By lafemmedramatique Il_430xn

and I came across one of my new fav. etsy shops... I've already suggested to someone else some of the stuff in there... it's modernarteveryday.etsy.com unfortunately, I'm poor, and can't actually afford to BUY any of the stuff... oh, how I do hate that whole money bussiness... So, here are some of my favs, and, more importantly, the ones that I think I might be able to get away with DIYing... not exact copies (duh, that's stealing) but.... "inspired duplications based on another artists work" if you will...  I must also mention that I am not the best artist (as in, I... »MORE

How to make funky, cheap, and arty coasters

By lafemmedramatique Img_3694

My birthday was Monday, and I had been dropping hints to my boyfriend like crazy to get me "The Starving Artist's Way" by Nava Lubelski.... and, like the good boyfriend that he is, I got the book! So, I've been reading it off and on since I got it, and I came across a project that is uber simple, and very fun. Hot Glue Coasters (well, she suggested hot glue table cloth or placemats, but I went small scale for my first project).... Basically, just pick some colorful paper (i used the grocery advertisements, myself) and let your hot glue drip... »MORE

Does anyone have a good idea on how to create a "craft space" in an apartment with no space?

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

So, my roomie and I are both very crafty folks... she's an art major, and I'm a theatre education major who is having a love affair with a sewing machine... problem is, our apartment is very teeny... I don't have photos just yet, but I will post some after I move in on the 13th... But, I shall discribe for now... You walk in, and there is a small foyer (spelling?) and then you have to go up a flight of stairs where there is a small hallway landing. Then off the hallway is the kitchen... we have a decent... »MORE

Oh, what to do... I'm coming undone at the seams!

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

So, this isn't really your typical curbly question, but I'm sure it's a question that I would have to ask on here eventually, just with something else... so, I'm asking it anyway!I recently made a really adorable skirt, and I wore it to my sister's wedding, and then I wore it again today and I realized that there's a tiny hole at the side! It's along the stiching and isn't that noticable, but since I've already trimmed the fabric there really isn't much I can do to restich it w/o causeing it to pucker. Currently I have a piece of... »MORE

Here's some more ideas to save money (and time) when doing laundry!

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

I just got done reading a post by DIY Maven, and I decided to post a few ideas on the subject myself (it's an ever important matter! So, here's another tip for those short on time or cash (I'm not sure how well this works for everyone else, but it's worked for me in the dorms)... I sort all of my laundry by colors (darks, lights, reds/pinks/purples/oranges/yellows, and undies/socks/towels)... However, I live in a dorm room where we are only allowed 3 hours a week for laundry.... So that's 30 minutes to wash, 60 to dry (in preset machines)... So... »MORE

Project Organization... I could REALLY use some help!

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

So, I am probably the most disorganized person on earth... my boyfriend, on the other hand, is borderline neat-freakish (those architecture majors are all the same....) Anyway, he got really upset the other day when I lost my purse (again) and made me promise to get more organized so that we can stop fighting over it...So, since I'm moving in May, I've decided to start getting ideas on what I can do BEFORE I go moving stuff in and unpacking everything... I saw a pretty good article with tips in Good Housekeeping, but I'm too cheap to actually buy the magazine... »MORE

Treasure Hunting

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

I went antique shopping at Treasure Mart/Treasure Mart Mall in Kokomo (Indiana) today... They're pretty fantastic... For those that don't live here it's not really worth it to drive really far out of your way, but if you're ever in the area anyway, it's DEFINETLY worth it! Treasure Mart Mall was a little out of my price range on furniture, etc. but I did find a brand new Target brand duvet cover for my bed on sale for 5.50, and I saw some pretty cool cups and an adorable salt and pepper shaker set (they had a whole set that... »MORE

To DIY or not to DIY... should I really trash this item?

By lafemmedramatique Photo_medium

I am a notorious packrat... I am not even joking around about this one... So yesterday when I saw my neighbors were going to throw out an old cabinet, I decided I wanted it, and that I would clean it up and repaint it and call it my own... only problem is that I don't get to move into my apartment until May, so my parents would have to store anything I decide to get until then....And my parents think that my cabinet is in too bad of shape and needs trashed.... I think it has some hidden potential, but... »MORE
